Can someone explain this to me please

Hi there!

My husband and I are trying to fill out some of the papers for the petition. One of the things that came up is a declaration of Paternity. We are trying to do some research on this and we are confused. If the fathers name is on the birth certificate does that mean that a declaration of paternity or a voluntary acknowledgement of paternity was signed by the father? They were never married. Is there a place we can call to verify this because it seems that the type of form we fill out depends on this?

Just to add for clarity, my husband said he is sure he filled out paperwork at the hospital but he didn't go to any registration office or anything. I think that in the US that registering a birth happens in the hospital right? Because my husband also said that he never actually saw a birth certificate for the child as well. I have actually contacted the US embassy here to get a birth certificate and I haven't heard back yet so any clarification of the process would be nice.

In the US there is 1. A

In the US there is 1. A certified Birth Certificate and 2. A hospital registration.

Hospital Registration is not a legally standing doc.

What state was the baby born in?

It can be sticky---The real deal is a dna test. Married couples means Groom is assumed bio dad.
