SD17 - Denies Shoplifting

CLove's picture

To her father, SD17-almost-18 acts the perfect child. She was caught New Years Day shoplifting at JC Pennys and is now banned. They have her on camera, but she denied it to her father, my SO, and then turned around and admitted to it to her BM, and added that she enjoyed the adrenalin.

What a sneaky, underhanded little liar!!!! She hasn't learned ANYTHING at all.
Im freaking mad at her right now, and now tonight and the next three nights she is staying with us. I have no words. So I will simply say "hello", and nothing else. She is so volatile and has such a temper. And Im a smart A$$, I know something will slip out. I am thinking of looking online for a "Free Winona Tshirt" for her.

So, now, I took everyone's expert advice and told my SO - "I understand until she is 18, we cannot allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we must not take her to ANY store, because of the possibility of being charged with delinquency of minor". His only answer is "yup". I also said that I will back off, of course, and that he will need to be the parent and hit her over the head with a big lecture, I do not need to add my voice. As well as enforcing the household ground rules. I made mention that I will grab him from the man cave if she starts being disrespectful to me in my home. I will be happy to wear the label "snitch".

I am learning about kleptomania from an unexpected source!

LOL!!!!!!
And my SD17 somewhat looks like her too. Pointy face, tiny body, short choppy hair, dark brown almond eyes, little-girl-lost look.

I haven't noticed anything missing. But she specifically said she does it for adrenalin, which is what I originally thought. She enjoys drama and lies continually. Someone on this board said a quote "scratch a liar and you find a thief". Now that she will be banned from malls, by us, I do not know where she will get her adrenalin fix.

What's that word, someone who is addicted to shoplifting... kleptomania!!!

Yah, its a special kind of addiction, and it takes place outside the home where you can get arrested if you are caught.

WE JUST FOUND OUT!!!!
But Im going to look into it tonight.

As in he just got a text from BM, which confirmed what I already suspected. She has addiction problems on both sides of the family. She doesn't do drugs, and doesn't drink at all. Doesn't have friends, or a boyfriend or anything like that. But I'm there with you too - I just texted him to watch his wallet, because if you take away the mall/Wal-Mart/target privilege, it might be replaced with something easier and closer. Like OUR things, Grandmas things, Aunties things...etc.

Im researching counselors. Its cheaper to do that than post bail! or support a worthless non-worker.

ugh! She tried to steal makeup. That's her thing. Face products, because she has really bad acne, and needs something to make her feel better. Like lying, and stealing. I am considering locking bedroom door, but she's is not going to be in the house alone as far as I am concerned. And while we sleep, we have our stuff in our room, which is next to hers.

At 17 she's old enough for you just to tell her to her face that she is a worthless POS that you do not trust. She's weeks away from being a legal adult.

Im trying to make things work. Shes still his daughter, and he is at the end of his rope with her. Shes a lieing, whining, lazy, etc...

But Sd17 needs some counseling... much less expensive than letting her get herself in trouble and then daddy dearest has to bail her out.

I hope he does not. But her Maternal grandfather is wealthy. He might. She needs a wake-up call that is a little more hardcore than just staying in her room (she likes it there anyway) with her electronics.

Im getting tired of the "little-girl-lost" act. Super tired. As she has gotten older, she has not improved, she has gotten into worse and worse trouble. Lied more and more.

NO ONE has given any lectures, she is simply left alone. Oh, the enablement!

CLove - you did not have enough wine....

DH does not believe his little girl is shoplifting... you know it, start locking up your room, she has no business in there... then disengage.... drink if you have to.....

this is not your daughter, karma bus will hit her eventually, oh and never take her to any shops with you if you have to and there's no other option be a b!tch and when entering a store tell the security please keep an eye on this one she's known for shoplifting.....

CLove's picture

Yes, you ARE spot on! About the wine. Shes on break, and we shipped her off to BM's house while SHE is on break, to "babysit" her.

SO totally believes the truth of the matter - you don't get fined and put in security cameras for "doing nothing", he knows exactly what is up. When in his 20's he did some stupid things. Hes almost 50 now and he knows the troubles that will certainly happen if we go to the store and she gets caught pinching something. We will get dinged for "delinquency of minor".

Snitching on the little biotch if we have to go to the store together - That's a great idea!!!!!
Thanks!

I wonder if she'll enjoy the "adrenaline rush" when she really gets pinched and they throw her into the county lock-up with the other hardcore "gals". They'll gladly pass her a$$ around for a carton of smokes.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Just stick with the disengagement best you can.

Thank you princessmofo. Talking about it really helps. What a burden this must be on my SO. He doesn't really want to talk about it with anyone else, because he is ashamed, and also knows what prison feels like (from a long time ago, in his 20's). She thinks she is edgy, but I see it as simply pathetic.
