Family counseling - a legal problem??
Forums:
So after much thought, i believe my newly blended family would benefit from family counseling, so we can all learn how to better fit together, adjust, etc. I think it would just be healthy to all involved (skids, 7 and 9, bios, 3 and 9)and be a great benefit for our whole family. Problem is, DH is worreid that BM will use this against us in our current custody battle, siting something like "kids have to have counseling just to be there..etc." althought that isn't true..we just think it would be beneficial. Any thoughts on this??
I can't say for certain how
I can't say for certain how it would play out in court because I've seen some really messed up "facts" presented. However, I would think that if she were to bring it up in court that you could always counter her arguement by saying that you were being proactive and in fact better parent's by trying to better understand how your kids were feeling about all the changes. Blending families is a big deal for kids emotionally, and counseling is all the rage these days anyway. If it were me, I'd go ahead with it. If when you schedule your counselor, you explain your reasons for wanting to do family counseling, you could always get a statement from you counselor to use in court if necessary too. Good Luck!
