What do you do with a 7yr old that pees his pants everyday?

My ss7 pees in his pants every day. It doesn't matter whether he is at school or home. My DH has tried yelling, spanking, taking away toys and priviledges. We have been to the pediatrician and also a urologist who all say it is not medical. I am tired of him peeing all over the place on furniture and the floor. It's just gross. DH has started to ignore it cause he doesn't want to believe it is not medical and that ss7 is just being lazy. What would you all do?

Had DH tried giving him those pull up thingies? Crayon's skid has been wearing those... or did.

My SD does that all the time. She's almost 9 and still pees and poops all over her bed... all over herself. She's lazy! I tried telling DH that she needs a pull up diaper thing and he got mad at me for suggesting such a thing!

"She's a BIG girl!" is what my DH tells me.

Yeah. Okay.

yeah we have tried those. That seems to make it worse he knows that his pee will be absorbed and so he doesn't even try to go the bathroom. Basically it lets him pee in his pants all the time. It's like a reward to him. So I guess it is either hard on me (washing clothes and bedding daily) or easy on me he pees in a diaper and I don't have to deal with it.

if it is not medical than psychological.

My BIL who is only 12 yrs. still wets the bed and often wets his pants. The good news is he does not do it on the floor or furniture (unless sleepwalking). His dr. said it is half medical and half laziness. He takes meds, sees a psychologist, and wears a diaper to bed. The sad thing is even at this age he has not gotten better, my MIL thought that by now he would be embarrassed about it, but not enough for him to stop doing it. I feel for you, I know that this is extremely frustrating.

I think he's just lazy but I'm not PHD for sure. It's just ironic that all his bio kids still need diapers, ss7, sd3, and bs1. Of course the younger ones are more understandable......just strange how that works.

does it. Since the two little ones are still in diapers. Does he feel a bit shafted when it comes to them? Maybe he still wants to be babied like them. he shouldn't be, he is to old. But have you asked him?

Yes that could be it because he is always saying he wished he was the same age as our bs1. I thought it might be regression too because a "new" baby is here. But it's been going on at least the last 3 months and not getting better. DH ignores it for the most part, that leaves me to constantly tell him to use the bathroom and clean up the mess including washing his bedding and clothes everyday so that the whole house doesn't stink like pee. How long do these kids regress?

on the childs personality. My SD, for instance, is very stubborn and will stick with her point for months. Some kids take less time to learn the right lesson. I bet you as soon as your BS starts using the potty your older SS will too. If BS starts early then your SS will see what great attention and reward he gets from it.

That makes me think of an idea. Did you try a chart with stickers, or a toy at the end of the week for no mistakes? I wonder if that would help.

We had considered using a "reward" chart like we do with sd3, it just seems kind of like why reward stuff that the kid is supposed to do? I guess though we kinda have to start over and I want this to end long before bs1 is ready to train. That's like 1-2 yrs away!

its about a year away, a long time. You shouldn't have to reward him for behavior that he should be doing at his age, but whatever works right?

toomuchstresshere's picture

yes I suppose we do have to do whatever keeps our sanity! Thanks for your help......

It doesn't happen that often until last week it was 3 times. H or BM hasn't taken him to the doctor about it. Getting him a diaper isn't going to be easy....he is 240lbs.

He now washes his own bedding but leaves the urine filled clothes in his room.......YUCK!

My kids never peed the bed so don't know what to think of it.

OMG! That must make the smell even worse! I feel bad complaing about my ss7 who is only 60lbs!

My son wet his pants every day during kindergarden. The teacher would offer him clean clothes and he would refuse. I am not sure why he did it, there was a restroom in the classroom. He did not do this at home, so at least I did not have to deal with bedding and such. I agree you should try counseling and see what's up. I would also have him clean up his mess and himself. Another thought, instead of pull ups, try cloth diapers with rubber pants. That's how my daycare trained her kids and it worked.
