Funny question - do you ever hide food from your stepkids?
My step sons will eat up everything in the house! They have no problem eating an entire bag of chips, box of cereal.. and not give a crap if anyone else in the house gets any. If I make a pan of brownies, they will cut a huge piece, snarf it down and try to sneak seconds before anyone else gets a piece.. If they ask for a second piece (or chunk) and you say no, they become obsessed with other people getting some and keep bugging you for more.. I literally have to hide them after they get a piece so they don't have any idea how much is left!!
We literally have to spell out every week what they are allowed to eat as snacks and what is intended to pack for lunches - if not, they would eat all of that too and by mid week you would have nothing left to pack.
Anyways.. I have begun to have my own secret stash of things I like to eat or things I can easily grab on the go. If I don't, I'll think "oh, there's a pack of pop tarts I can just grab and eat in the car since I'm starving and running late"... and NOPE.. ss14 ate the entire box in 2 days!
The concept of thinking about "hey, other people might want to eat these, I shouldn't consume all of it" was never taught to these kids..
Anyone else doing this or am I the only crazy one?

Yep. My OSS drank my grandsons baby juice just to be an asshole I suppose. I have a whole kitchen in my bedroom.

Yes ma'am! I don't hide my favorite chips, per say, but I put them up high enough that the skids can't reach!
Otherwise, I will come home (same day as buying it) and SS will be sitting among the ten thousand crumbs and an empty bag still on the table.
And is there nothing worse
And is there nothing worse than cleaning up the remains of your favorite food that you didn't even get to TASTE?!?! NOTHING WORSE.
Vacuuming up tears along with the crumbs... LOL
LOL, we have all done this at
LOL, we have all done this at some point. Even funnier is the fact that DH has started to do this with his Doritos so my BS15 won't eat them. I don't get mad, I get it. When his kids were younger I had to hide stuff all the time. I also would wait till they left to go food shopping. It's a trick of the trade.
Yes but from my BS18. He
Yes but from my BS18. He would everything in sight....I wish SS would eat more.
What worked for BS was having one shelf in the pantry that he never had to ask for permission to eat...Started that when he was three.
Not only food but I hide my
Not only food but I hide my good shampoo and conditioner from SD15. The sad thing is I pull it out to wash DD5's hair.
Oh good, I'm not the only one
Oh good, I'm not the only one who hides food from her SK's!! SD14 will get up really early on the weekends and we find the wrappers shoved in the couch cushions. She has been punished numerous times (no cell phone, no allowance, etc). My DH will buy snacks for their lunches and only keep the number we need for the week out and hide the box either in the garage or our bedroom closet. DH is on a paleo diet so I'm beginning to find that I need to hide stuff from him as well (he has NO willpower when it comes to sweets). Halloween candy is currently in the linen closet, behind the sheets!
Oh yeah. Or the weekends I
Oh yeah. Or the weekends I knew the skids were coming I wouldnt grocery shop until after they left.
It wasn't so much that they ate a lot but that they would eat it ALL and not leave any for anyone else.
One time DH bought 5 containers of strawberries, some 5 for $5 deal. Anyways we left for 2 hours and came back and they ate them ALL. Well technically they left like 5 small rotten berries in one of the containers. Ugh that still grinds my nerves thinking about it.
The fruit pisses me off the
The fruit pisses me off the most of all...probably because its so expensive.
They will each eat a pound of strawberries in a single sitting.....who cares about anyone elss.
Ten dollars in grapes? Gone day one
Whole watermelon? Theh ate it in one sitting, tough luck for anyone else
4 bananas at z time...each.....so theres a whole bunch gone in ten minutes
Did the bananas at least
Did the bananas at least constipate them? I have to watch DD with bananas, they are her favorites and they will bind her up in a heartbeat. Poor kid. (my dd not your skids)
all.the.time. Honestly I have
all.the.time.
Honestly I have to hide BS3 food more so than mine.... drives me nutso because BS3 is a very picky eater so when his food comes up missing, it really pisses me off, especially since when we moved into our new house 2 years ago, I told BOTH skids that the cupboard that I keep BS3 food in was strictly off limits. Of course that means nothing to Perfect Precious entitled Princess.
The best part is? I found some brownie mix and cupcake papers that SD15 must have clearly been hiding.. from me I guess??? Well guess she didn't do a very good job, because it has now vanished into thin air. }:)
HA HA! Yep, two can play her
HA HA! Yep, two can play her little game. I also found a box of pop tarts in her room last night... I really don't care for pop tarts, but you can bet that I took a package and disposed of it, just because I can. (and I'm a petty bitch)
Yep, I have to tuck away
Yep, I have to tuck away stuff in the back of the top shelf where its cant be seen easily, or buried under frozen vegetables.
I also hide sometimes when I eat.....just avoid the pack of jackels that decend on the kitchen whe. They hear food wrappers. Ill want a quick snack for myself and end up both skids saying they want some too, and then im in there making food for ten minutes, im out a whole block of cheese, whole box of crackers and I have half a sink of dishes to clean. So not worth it. So I fake them out by pretending im doing something else in the fridge until after they peek in then I go and eat in the laundry room.
... and best place to hide

Seriously
Cash in the tampon box, sad but it works over at my place, too.
So funny. My mom said she

I have literally grabbed a
I have literally grabbed a secret oatmeal cream pie and gone into the garage to open it so they won't hear the wrapper and start looking for where they are hidden...
Yes, I always keep juice in
Yes, I always keep juice in the house for all of the kids, but keep juice boxes for the kids for school. I started stashing the juice boxes during skid weekend because they would drink a whole box or two over two days. The kids who live in our house full time aren't allowed to drink juice to that degree and juice boxes are more expensive. DH also set up some boundaries around bread, OSD will go through a loaf of bread a day because she wont eat anything else but sandwiches and will eat them all day long - will eat them half way and throw away the rest.
OMG.. LMAO.. ok, yaaay! I'm
OMG.. LMAO.. ok, yaaay! I'm not crazy
And what's even more funny is I am catching DH hiding things as well.. at first he called me petty and mean.. then after a few times of it happening to him, he began to hide packs of pop tarts so he could have his late night snack.. lol
The worst is a couple of
The worst is a couple of times when I have hid stuff from SD15 and then I can't remember where the hell I put it! Epic fail!
Oh, the towels! We had a
Oh, the towels! We had a variety of towels but I bought two for DH and I that were large and extra fluffy, big enough for adults. So SD would take those out of the rotation and hide them so she could use them. I remember one time I pulled one to use for my shower and while I was in the shower she took it away! Dh and I used to fight about that like crazy because he said SD had a "right" to use those towels. Um, no. She didn't buy them, there are like 10 other perfectly fine towels, give me my damn good towels!
I hid stuff from the skids
I hid stuff from the skids and now the tradition continues to gskids.
I hid food and my diet coke
I hid food and my diet coke all the time that SS lived with us.
Damn skippy I hide food!
Damn skippy I hide food! Sometimes I hide sweets, and totally forget WHERE I hid them the find them months later.
I hide my darkest chocolate
I hide my darkest chocolate from both DH and his kid.
IT'S MINE...ALL MINE...DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND???
On a serious note, I have considered cutting off fingers of those who dare touch my stash.
Okay....not so serious.

if there's good brownies (the flat, fudgy kind, not storebought) i'll stash some. i'll stash some stuff for one skid if it's like totally their favorite, just to make sure they get some before one or both of the others get to it. sometimes i'll stash skid snacks to hide them from DH!!!
and yes, i also hide towels - they leave them everywhere or use them inappropriately, so i just removed them and got them their own so i dont care where they end up, and i dont wash them if they're not in the 'towel bin'. and i hide my bathroom stuff - my hair's down to my waist, so i NEED the slightly better quality - we're talking panteen here, not salon stuff or anything - but they'd used half a bottle in a week. it takes me SIX MONTHS of daily use to use that much- so i disappeared them. along with my body wash
i also keep our bedroom door locked if any of them are home when dh or i are not home
3 kids 1 SS here- I have
3 kids 1 SS here- I have STUFFED A LITTLE DEBBIE DOWN MY PANTS to eat it in the bathroom! Quietly unwrapping of course! lol Seriously though the most infuriating thing CBB would do is this: I insist that large garbage/ recyclables be thrown in the bins outside. CTBB would leave one tablespoon of milk in the carton, one tablespoon in the GIANT box of Cheerios, just so he wouldn't have to walk the box/carton outside. (6 steps)
That is my favorite. I got in
That is my favorite. I got in the pantry and found an empty 2-liter pop bottle. I know it was DH, and what's worse, he had to walk right past the trash can to put it back in the pantry. Why!?
Yes and I started doing it
Yes and I started doing it before my Skids came along. Not sure if I was insecure in my first marriage or if I was hiding food from myself! My mom came to help me out organizing my food and I found boxes of cereal hidden which was my doing and we found 30 boxes and only 2 of them were in the kitchen. After that I only allowed myself 2 boxes at most in the house.
Then Skids came along, so DH and I bought a cabinet and put it in our bedroom and I hide food in there. We also bought little cabinet for the candy. Its my DH and SD who have the sweet tooth. When Skids have come over, I'd fill them a zip lock bag of candy and they are allowed to space it out or eat it all at once, I don't care and it works out great.
Aldi's {grocery store} is my weak spot now. Seasonal food on sale is hard for me to walk away from..
I hide favorite snacks, my
I hide favorite snacks, my shampoo and conditioner and my high price liquid bath soap because one of the SD's can use up 29oz of conditioner that last me a whole month in 3 days!! I mean what the f**CK is she doing in there?? Not to mention the liquid bath soap in 4 days that should last two weeks. You can tell her she is using to much but she does not listen so for that she gets the cheap suave Shampoo's and Saint Ives liquid soaps

I have 3 ss's who can get
I have 3 ss's who can get through enough to feed an army in a week. SS16 is a complete and utter pig and will guzzle down snacks and cereal in a couple of days which are meant to feed the 3 of them for a week. I get soooo angry because we're on a really tight budget and struggle to make ends meet without ss16 gobbling everything in sight and leaving nothing for anyone else. If it was just him I wouldn't care - if you guzzle a week's worth of rations in a day then that's your fault if you go without for the next 6 days, but when he's wolfing down the stuff that's meant for the three of them to share it's not fair on the other two. They have foods like bread, cheap jams and spreads, fruit and yoghurts which are left for them to help themselves and although ss10 and ss11 eat rather a lot, tend to respect this and don't go scavenging for other things to guzzle without asking first, but ss16 seems to think these rules don't apply to him and it pisses me off big time! I buy the very cheapest brands of everything for the skids - bread, yoghurts, cereal etc and only fill the fruit bowl once a day so once it's gone it's gone, but still ss16 will rifle through the snacks cupboard and eat all the crisps and cookies that are meant for everyone including ss10 and ss11's packed lunches. I do the grocery shopping and specifically avoid buying certain things no matter how cheap they are because I just know ss16 will gobble it all in one sitting and no one else will get any. I've told dh repeatedly to tell ss16 to stop being so greedy and selfish and he makes half-hearted attempts to stop ss16 from doing it, but after a while it starts again. I do hide things and we have a separate fridge and a specific cupboard of stuff that are off limits for skids, either only for packed lunches or family meals or stuff specifically for me and dh who are both diabetic and have to be careful what we eat. SS16 went away for a couple of weeks to stay with grandparents in the summer and I couldn't believe the difference - we actually had stuff left at the end of the week instead of having to go out and buy more. Are all teen boys like this, or is he just exceptionally greedy and selfish I wonder? I have seriously thought of locking things away and giving out rations, but dh obviously doesn't see it as much as a problem as I do, which is beyond annoying!
I'm smiling as I read through
I'm smiling as I read through this post and comments! And I thought I was the only one!!!!
My ss17 will fix himself a WHOLE PACKAGE of frozen waffles, he likes to melt cheese and lunch meat and piles of expensive pesto on them, then throws away (he doesn't actually throw it away, just dumps it food and all in the sink) about half as he gets so full he can't eat the whole thing without physically hurting himself. Doesn't stop him from coming back a few hours later to pour himself a large glass of juice that he then leaves perched precariously on an couch arm to be spilled by whoever is unlucky enough to bump into it. Or his frequent midnight runs to the kitchen for his 4th, 5th or 6th meal and sugar fix.
We are 50/50 time with my sk's and I'm only two days into this round. I feel like such a bitch all the time having to tell them stupid stuff like " don't use the last of the creamer and put it back in the fridge." I swear my bk12 even ends up telling them common sense things. He's also started writing his name on cans of soup and other things meant to be eaten in moderation or he ends up with nothing.
Here's my favorite stepkid
Here's my favorite stepkid was a food moron story:
One week I bought hot dogs to have for dinner a couple of days later, ten pack I believe. Put it in the fridge, fairly far back and kind of behind stuff (to keep from SD eating it). Two days later I look in fridge and there are only four hot dogs left. What ... the ... hell?! So I push them further back to "hide" them better. Get them out that night to cook, there are only two left. Seriously?! I was so mad, know what I did? Made one hot dog for me and one hot dog for DD2 and told SD12 to find her own dinner. Oh my goodness. You'd have thought I cut off her arm. Calling mom complaining I wasn't feeding her. Calling dad about how "unreasonable" I was. Come to find out, she was eating the hot dogs for "snacks." Uh huh, eight hot dogs in two days is not a snack. She really didn't need or deserve dinner at all.
Well, BM's mom decided to be the bi*ch that she is and, the next weekend, sent SD home with a package of hot dogs, the super cheap kind. First of all witch, butt out. Second of all, nobody in my house is eating those nasty things. I told DH to send them back with SD the next time she went to BM's.
All the ding dang time!!!!!
All the ding dang time!!!!!
I have to hide BS3's special
I have to hide BS3's special snacks from the skids. We are putting a lock on the pantry before this weekend because I have caught the skids sneaking food to their rooms early in the morning before they think DH and I are up. This has happened many times. The last skid weekend, they went through half a pack of hot dog buns and a pack of crackers in one sitting. I flipped since we just moved into a nice house, and they were eating in the only two rooms that have carpet. We had them for a week over summer, and they ate a week's worth of snacks in two days. Then they had the nerve to complain about being out of snacks. Grrrr! Anything we want to make last has to be hidden to keep the skids from eating everything in one day.
OMG don't get me started! My
OMG don't get me started! My bio's lunch snacks? Gone bc SD16 sits and eats a whole box of gushers or fruit roll ups in 1 sitting. MY special ice cream, she will leave 1 bite left and put it back in the freezer all half melted. I get PISSED. Pretty sure she does it on purpose. FDH buys a 12 pack of pop when she comes over basically for her bc she drinks 8 cans of pop in 3 hours. You would think shes fat right? Nope size 0..........
She was never taught to share or leave some for others? Maybe she don't care either way it's f'ing rude and pisses me the F off!!
She brought my good towel to her moms "by accident" her hair was still wet and she wrapped her hair in it. GRRRRR deny deny deny. SD21 busted her out.
Yup, I'm going to hide
Yup, I'm going to hide tonights pizza and give it to my son before I pick skid up from practice. Not that they would eat this type of pizza but they would put their filthy mitts all over it so no one could enjoy it.
My birth children do that. I
My birth children do that. I raise your brownie story. My teenaged bd will cut THE MIDDLE out of the pan of brownies. Because edges are crunchy, and apparently, gross. They won't cross her lips. But she doesn't cut the entire pan, no, just cuts a square right in the middle and eats that piece. Oh it makes me so mad.
Dd14 does this, DH calls it
Dd14 does this, DH calls it "gouging" lol
I hide snacks and food in my
I hide snacks and food in my trunk.
My skid hates milk chocolate
My skid hates milk chocolate and makes drama every year about needing white chocolate rabbits at Easter. The skid will not eat chocolate chip cookies even with white chocolate chips. He doesn't like chocolate he says. So my mother got DD2 at the time hooked on the little Nesquik bottles of chocolate milk as a treat. She would either get one after preschool or with her dinner. One a day and only if she was good. Skid drank 6 bottles in one 2 hour period, he even knew they were off limits. He is lucky he lived.
I have to hide food from my
I have to hide food from my own kids. Our pantry has a pad lock. If not, the would all snack all the time and no one would eat the meals prepared for them.
Frustrated
Wow this is a really old thread but I am so glad I stumbled across it!!! I am current seething because my ss12 just came upstairs, asked for a bagel, and then proceeded to make himself 2 bagels. (Mind you this an hour after having 3 pieces of pizza for dinner, and being pissy there wasn't more left for him). Yesterday he finished off the rest of my soda, and has been finishing off all kinds of things lately without leaving any for others. He eats up all my kids snacks and then complains there's no food in the house. Meanwhile, he pops in and out of our house whenever he feels like, eats us out of house and home, and we're paying his mother child support?! I need some support I am going broke feeding this kid. Not to mention he is already obese and only getting bigger. I've spoken to DH about this but he does nothing. I am beyond frustrated.
Yes, below the produce
SS never looks in the produce drawers of the fridge so I stash whatev in there under the lettuce. 100% success rate so far.
Sometimes but going to start more
I am thinking about getting my own fridge. SS15 eats everything in sight. There are foods I buy for myself to enjoy because of allergies that stop me from eating things they enjoy. Next thing I know I get a craving and they are all GONE but all their things are still there. DH always asks if he can have some of my stuff. SS got into my wine, my iced tea (I drink plain iced tea rather than drinking sugary juice). I buy myself small cartons of dairy free ice cream and get the boys the BIG plastic tubs of ice cream... guess which gets eaten first?
I always start feeling petty because I get upset but there is absolutely no care for others and no respect. I am so tempted to eat the chocolate bunny that is meant for SS... but DH would probably blow a gasket at me.
