SS9 Arrived Tonight - Baby and House Update
DH picked up SS9 today. During the 4 hour car ride home, DH called me and we told SS about his baby sister. It was clear that BM and GF didn't say a word because the look of pure shock on SS' face was genuine. He smiled but also looked like he was about to cry; almost like the reaction you sometimes get when you give a child a puppy and they are just so overwhelmed. DH didn't push him and I didn't either. I just let him know that when he visits us in March, he will have a new little sister and DH gave him an ultrasound to look at. I warned SS that I look a little different from when he last saw me. When SS got home and saw me in all my 31 week glory, his eyes immediately widened and shot immediately at my belly. He looked nervous and looked away.
DH and I then took SS9 out to the house. We didn't tell him anything about it until we pulled in. When we pulled in the driveway, we said "You see this house here? It's ours." SS was so surprised. We all walked through the house with headlamps on and toured each framed room. SS signed some of the framed beams and we left. During the car ride back home, SS told DH and I that he is excited but worried about all of the changes; he said he is worried because he has never experienced some of these things, like building a house or being a big brother. DH told him that everything will be okay and that we are all in this together. SS seemed to calm down a bit after that.
When we put SS to bed, we always ask him what a highlight and low point of his day were. SS said that the house and the baby were highlights and the long drive (4 hours) from BM's house to our place was the low point - fair enough. SS looked at me again kind of funny and said he has never known a pregnant person before. SS said that BM's best friend is the only person he knows that had a baby and he only saw best friend after the baby was born, so he never saw her pregnant. I told him that his little sister is about the size of a cantaloupe melon. SS asked me if that was big for a baby and I told him she is about 3 pounds at this point. I explained that she kicks around and in two months, she will be here. He smiled at that. I think he is genuinely excited and will be a good big brother.

He probably will love the baby when he meets her. When I was his age and found out my parents were having another kid I got a little upset because I didn't want life to change, I remember feeling scared. But that was only at the beginning. It's so nice how you guys are reassuring him and being so balanced. I hope everything goes amazing for you in this exciting new chapter!

He sounds like a sweet boy. I hope BM doesn't ruin him.
There's a phone app
That shows baby's progress by equating baby size with a fruit size. DIL used it for her pregnancy and it was quite interesting. SS might like that info.

Yeah, I have one of those apps. I showed it to him this morning. He thought it was cool!
