This Ladies in Gentlemen is how you start raising a kid that other people don't want to be around.

So.. not entirely SK related aside from the fact that the mother in question is my OSD... but I think it probably paints a good picture of why so many kids are PITA's to be around these days.. it's THIS kind of parenting.

So.. up on my FB feed is a picture of my Stepgrandson.. he is almost 3 years old.  He is licking a sucker.... with a "cute" look on his face.

The caption" So where do kids learn that if they lick the lollipop that the parents will be made to buy it?"

Her MIL posts.. "awwwe.. your DH used to do that..haha"

My DH's EX posts a similarly adoring sentiment.. along with several other relatives and friends.

Me?  I don't post on her stuff because.. BM.. but I had to sit on my hands because I wanted to post so damn badly.

My post

"Well, if it had happened when I was growing up, my mom would have paid for that sucker and then let me watch her throw it in the damn trash.  You just taught your kid that it's ok to steal.. that it's ok to do bad things if you get what you want in the end.. and mommy will do anything to keep you from fussing"

I mean, I know... had she taken it from him and thrown it away and told him that it was because he wasn't allowed to do things like that.. he would have cried.. he would have thrown a fit.  But.. ya know what.. better that he throw a fit at 3 years old than learn hard lessons as an adult that his parents didn't teach him.

would have made me pay her back out of my piggy bank even if she threw it away.

Previously I was a manager of a Candy Store in a hugely popular tourist destination.

There were different types of kids:

1. The polite dont want to touch anything kids. Eyes big taking on all the wonderfulness of CANDY.

2. The eager spenders, heres my money what can I buy with it kids.

3. The grabby kids - touch EVERYTHING, grab what you want, as there parents chased them around smacking their hands, and then they have a trantrum, causing the parents to scoop them up and run. I called it the "scoop and run".

I knew I was burned out on the job when one child opened the candy bin, grabbed with bare hands, and shoved the candy in her mouth. When I said no she kept going. I got mad, clapped my hands (no touching), and said "hey, NO means NO".

Mother got mad, I gave a discount and apologised, and quit a short time after..

More than UGH!!!
Horribly behaved kids in public places - especially shops - is part of the reason I hate shopping...
I have no patience or tolerance for brats or their stupid parents.

Good on you ESMOD, for holding back and not showing these low-life people how you really feel.

Stealing / messing with someone else's property is ok because it is a child?
Yeah, watch how well that goes with time...

At least Mom is stupid enough to post public service "warnings" on FB about how ill-mannered her child is and what a poor parent she is.
So not cute.
