Is "Manipulative" a Professional Diagnosis?
SS11 went to therapy today.
He just stared at the therapist like Good Will Hunting did to his.
DH wanted to flip out but the therapist told him to calm down.
So then the therapist, worth all his $150 per session figured out how to get into SS11's little attitude and made him break down. I don't know how.
SS11 spilled his guts - hates his Dad, wants to be with BM, thinks his little brother is a moron, doesn't understand why BM and DH got divorced, doesn't understand why he has to have 2 Moms.
These are all things I susptected except for the part about his brother. That was just cruel.
The therapist said he is a very manipulative kid and he only believes half of what he said.
Interesting ...

I think it's more of an observation rather than a diagnosis. How great that you've got him into counseling at 11 yo - I wanted SD to go early on but my advice wasn't taken. Things probably would be a lot different today if we had. Glynne
Not a diagnosis, just a
Not a diagnosis, just a behavioral observation. This observation from a 3rd outside person should give all the adults involved a heads up to be more aware when things are going, or everyday things with SS.
He needs to be shown manipulating is not appropriate or acceptable.
I agree with you but now I
I agree with you but now I really don't trust him.
BM promotes manipulation and DH bashes it.
It is so frustrating.

Sounds like you have found a great therapist! I also have a manipulative SS who faked his way through so much therapy it would make your head spin. I'm glad to know that an objective party can see through the BS of a manipulative child to get to the root of the problem. And your SS's issues seem typical for any COD.
Best of luck to you as you continue therapy for SS.
Manipulative SS over here
Manipulative SS over here too. Kudos to the therapist!!!
