Breaking Bad News - Advice Time!
So, it's done. I am going to have to move, probably by the end of the year if I am to keep my shoes.
Tomorrow BM is coming over for a bit, and we're going to try to work out how to break this news to my SS.
This house is his home. When he was here last weekend we tried to help him pick things to bring to BM NEWTOWN, and of course he's been acting like this house will always be here, his room, his stuff, his home, and we haven't told him otherwise. I think that one major thing that's been helping him cope with the move to BM NEWTOWN is the knowledge that he'd be able to come back here sometimes.
Of course, he will always have a place with me - but I know that's not the same.
So what do we say? How do we soften the blow? How do we make him feel secure without this rock to hold onto?

Truth. Just love him enough
Truth. Just love him enough to tell him the truth. This is a cruddy situation and there is no "spin" which will soften the blow. SS probably has already thought about it and just wanted to pretend that you and the house would remain as it was.
Let him know where you'll land and when you think you can see each other next.
I am so sorry for the loss of DH, the loss of your Life as you knew it. I am sorry that DH thought he would have plenty of time to straighten things out. Sending you prayers for strength and peace. Give your little one a cuddle.
Thank you for sharing your story, though. You bring up an absolutely critical issue ... current wills, current beneficiaries, taking care of your family. It can happen to any of us at any time ...
