Preserving Memories - Ideas?

whatthesebootsaremadefor's picture

So, since we'll be moving in a couple of months, I've started going through our house to try to consolidate and save the keepsakes, photos, and such that DH left behind. My idea is to make a box for each of the boys that they can have when they're older, and keep just a few things out for my SS to have now (his mom isn't really a sentimental person, but I know he is - I don't want to send too much because it might not be kept).

I'm creative and pretty handy, but I don't have time for scrapbooking right now - I just know it would never get done.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to organize or present this stuff?

Maybe a shadow box? If you're creative it shouldn't take very much time to put together. My godson's father passed away when he was four (he's 14 now) and his mom made a shadow box with a picture of dad and son together, dad's favorite tie and a few other mementos. Godson still has it up in his room; he says he feels like he has a little bit of dad there with him.

Years ago, when I was sorting through a load of stuff DH had been given by the skids over the years ( BM used to just scoop all the stuff they made at school, from like 5 yrs old and put it in a plastic bag and send it over to us! ) DH " cherished " all this stuff, but seriously after the 110 th crayon drawing and toilet tubes covered in glitter, I was done, lol!!

Skids had first choice about what to keep, no interest really, I mean this is stuff they had made like six years ago!! DH was like I don't know what to do and left it to me.....so I took photos of the most "precious" stuff and the drawings, saved them all on a disc, and gave it to DH. (Said he could do loads of montages with all the photos and frame them, blah, blah) He loved that idea..... YEARS later nothing has been done yet and there's NO WAY I'm doing it, lol. But, it solved the problem, and I could throw out like fifteen bags of this stuff!
