Does anyone think it's odd....

Gabby77's picture

for a 7 year old to kiss adults on the mouth. My SD kisses her father on the mouth when she kisses him goodnight. She used to try and do it to me....but I put a quick stop to it. I come from a very affectionate family but this is just something that seems odd to me. I understand that it is really up to families to set boundries....but I just feel like this is weird. SHe trys to do it with other people too.....What does everyone else think?

I come from a very kissey family and have many friends that are kissey.
We kiss on the mouth... unless there are known BUGS going around, then I say.... uhh uhh ahhh on the cheek please... I have germs OR you do Wink

I do not kiss my SKIDS.

My 7 year old SD kisses my DH on the mouth... My 6 year old BD kisses DH on the mouth too... I don't see anything odd about it.

My side of the family ( my parents, siblings ) arent kissy people, I cant remember the last time I kissed either of my parents... BUT I am very affectionate with my kids, and they have learned that from me. My SS love to hug and hold hands and he is 8. I kiss my daughter on the lips about a hundred times a day, and both my daughter and my SS kiss DH on the lips.

As long as its not a lingering "stepping over the line of appropriate behavior" kind of kiss, I see nothing wrong with it.

Thats just me though.

Love the name by the way....

I also kiss my daughter 1,000 times a day.... My son is 10 now and its just not cool to kiss me anymore (according to him) so we worked out a deal.... I get 1 "lips kiss" per day....
Then when he falls asleep I steal a few more!

I also kiss my SS a 1,000 times a day (hes only 2) and he loves to smooch!

I kiss all of my children on the lips. I have a BD12, SD11 and BS6. I kiss my little one a thousand times a day too. The girls only want one at bedtime. (they are to grown for any other time) We hug a lot and we kiss alot. All of the children kiss DH on the lips too. I just don't find it weird, odd, strange or anything else.

Don't stress....this is more normal than you think.

Some people are like slinkies...not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs! Smile

My SD13 still kisses her dad on the lips, but only good night. I dont' let the Skids kiss me on the lips, I'm just not comfortable with it. I don't really mind the cheek thing I guess but I dont' kiss them on the cheek they kiss me and actually only the SD does, not either SS. But me and my siblings kiss each other on the cheeks. I dont' think there's anything wrong with it unless the kiss lingers for longer than a second, which I'm sure it's fine!

We're big huggers and kissers in our immediate family. On the cheeks with the skids, but on the lips with my own and they are 4 and 9. Even with people that I'm close to, like my aunts, we kiss on the cheek for hello and goodbye. It's probably not something you think about one way or the other until you become involved with someone who believes the opposite of what you believe. I don't see anything wrong with a peck on the lips, but other families are different and that's okay.

There is a definition between sexual and intimate and I think that is what you are trying to decipher. At what age do we delineate between innocent and corrupt. I think, reading these posts, it is about how you feel about yourself. So whatever feels comfortable with you is what you should do. This is of course a very complex issue and there will be many many different perspectives that I couldn't possibly address myself. This crowd however...

I am not a huggy kissy person but i'm trying to get better at it. I believe this is a comfort thing according to how you grew up. I apparanty wasn't hugged much I don't know. I had a loving family but we just weren't that way. I realized it when my brother dated this girl in hs and her family was very kissy touchy, it freaked me out! She would come to family stuff and kiss on everyone! Some ppl just do. I don't believe my ex husband grew up w lots of hugs, but he showers our girls with hugs and kisses ( on the mouth ) I however do not like this, not because of the amount of affection shown but the are 13 & 15 & i don't like the kissing on the mouth. So I understand how you feel but I don't think ppl look at it as strange or weird . I dont believe my ex is a creep but there is something very creepy about it. Now my little kids' dad kisses them and it doesn't bother me but they are still pretty little. I grew up in a conservative family.

my 14 year old son still kisses me with a peck on the lips, i wish my 16 year old son would show a little more affection,(i guess that is the teenager coming out). i try not to kiss my husband's kids on the mouth. i would rather them kiss me on the cheek as well as me kissing them on the cheek. i'm very cautious when it comes to his kids. bm is psycho and i don't want her to get the wrong impression.

Not only do I think its gross, but they seem to always come over to our house sick.
I have never kissed my mother like that or my father or any of my other family members like that,
but I dont care that my bf does it with his kids I still kinda look away when he does it though.

I have always hated being affectionate and I still have a hard time hugging some people

"I wish I could sell her for what she thinks she is worth, I'd be a millionare." HA HA -insert evil grin here...
