borderline personality disorder?????
Forums:
So we had a few weeks of a good kid. Now we are back to her evil twin. She cuts herself because she claims we make life shitty. Why do we do that you ask? Oh well you know leaving trash on the floor or boogers on the furniture. We aren't supposed to tell her to clean it up. Shame on us!!!! I caught her and her mother making fun of my husband. I told my husband I will leave if he doesn't do something and fast!
I spoke with counselor friend. She mentioned the disorder. I know her half brother has been in and out of psych wards. SD sees a counselor but we are never allowed in the sessions. Hubby wants to change counselors. What a mess. I see this going downhill quickly ascshe gets older.
How old is your SD? What kind
How old is your SD? What kind of therapy is she in? Is the therapist aware that she is cutting herself? Has she ever been seen by a psychiatrist? She may need more support than one weekly session will allow. There are schools for girls with emotional issues. Some are day programs, some are residential. Have your husband speak to her school. Does she do well there?
She does very well in school.
She does very well in school. The cutting is why she sees counselor. We are going to try to switch to an older and wiser counselor. Hopefully the mom agrees to it.
Problem with teenagers is
Problem with teenagers is that a lot could be diagnosed with BPD. I could have been, I self harmed, my moods were up and down. Much like your SD. I saw an amazing counsellor. I was abused as a kid so I knew the reason I was doing what I was doing. However I just needed to get it off my check. However it is hard do diagnose BPD in the UK as it basically just describes a hormonal teenager at their worst. I would advise swapping the counsellor.
Cutting seems to be the new
Cutting seems to be the new thing. HHB did that for a while...her girlfriend supposedly used to cut, too. You would be shocked to be online and see how much "support" teens get out there, and how many songs they listen to talk about cutting. It's crazy!
But I agree...definitely something is going on in this kid's brain. Seems your DH may be on to something if he wants to switch counselors...I bet he thinks something is doesn't seem right with this counselor...you aren't allowed in sessions, and the kid doesn't seem to be getting any better? Yeah, I would want a new counselor, too. I get that the counselor may want to talk one on one with the teen, and make them feel like they are in a safe environment...but at the same time, there should be at least a weekly or monthly "family" session.
Wineisthecure: no she
Wineisthecure: no she doesn't. My husband took time off Thursday to go to counseling with SD. Again not welcomed in. Counselor did speak to him afterward and said they are working hard on how she perceives things. Counselor said that is a real issue. We may say something and she perceives it as we are being mean. He let the SD know that he will no longer run things over to her when she is with her mother. He is finally waking up to how manipulative she is.
Our BM is BPD. If you truly
Our BM is BPD. If you truly feel that your SD has it, she is in for a lifetime of hurt. BPD is one of the worst, if not the worst, mental illness. There are therapists who even refuse to deal with them because of the damage these people do to the therapist! Our BM cannot maintain a relationship with anyone....not family, friends, her own children or romantic partners which can be men one day, female the next. The bisexuality is not uncommon amongst BPD. They practice self-harm (ours pulls out her eyelashes), can't take responsibility for their actions, always the victim, and have an uncanny knack of manipulation and guilt.
It is a HORRIBLE disorder. Years of psychotherapy is recommended and that is not even guaranteed to work.
Cutting and claiming
Cutting and claiming bisexuality seems to be the "in" thing in teen counter culture at the moment.
My SD age 16 was diagnosed
My SD age 16 was diagnosed with BPD. She threatens suicide if she doesn't get her way. DH has boy/girl twins age 14 too. All of them are basically flunking school. DH says he can't do anything about it. He just doesn't want to deal with crazy (likely has BPD too) ex. He is supposed to have skids for 6 weeks this summer, but SD 16 has already said she won't be coming. I'm glad. DH wants custody of the twins, but his ex says NEVER. It's really all about the money. I don't think he would ever win in court anyway. They favor a crazy mother over a sane father. It's too bad. The skids are definitely weird, but they would have a chance of a life if they were with us and not at the crazy family.
