Some sunshine during a cloudy month

Well, instead of complaining today, I had a dose of sunshine from an unexpected corner - my SD10!

Last night, after reading posts and writing some of my own, I think I got myself into a bit of a funk. Then, driving home, sort of tired, and hungry and cold (pouring down rain, icy wind blowing 44 mph) I go to the local Safeway and find "aha, 1 more bottle of local chardonnay left!" score. Then decide to make a yummy brothy pork rib soup called "Linaga", and was getting pretty happy about my future evening. The lights go out in the store, it takes Forever to get checked out! No matter, I don't get irritated.
I get home and everyone's doing their thing so I get in my sweats and get to "souping up", with a nice little fire in the fireplace. Winona, having clunked herself in the head a few days ago, is resting quietly in her doorless room, on the other side of the house. SD10, she's cheerfully ensconced in her youtube howto video dujour. Sweety is watching something, who cares what.

I toil over this soup - it take about 2 hours to cook effectively - extra meaty pork ribs boiled on high, add garlic and ginger, bay leaf and salt. When almost finished, add chunky peeled potatoes. Cook to medium firmness (You don't want mashed potatoes after all!). Add in some Napa Cabbage. Grind in some pepper.

It was delicious, steamy and hot, served over white jasmine rice, salted with a squeeze of fresh lemon. A perfect blend with the citrusy chardonnay I picked, local to this area. What could go wrong? I got a little sensitive that no one liked it because DADDY didn't make it, huffed and puffed my way to living room to sulk. But, this morning, lo and behold I got hugs from SD10 (Darling Angel) and thank yous and "it was REALLLLLY really good, I liked it but it was Clove-temperature" (meaning so hot it burns our mouth).

We laughed our way through the morning chatter we usually engage in. A really nice way to start the day. I am starting to "get" why people actually WANT to have kids!!!!

I love the rare moments they are sweet and appreciative. It almost makes it feel worth it. Your soup sounds delicious and fancy!

AJ - The soup is "souper" simple and plain - it is Filipino in origin. Just pork ribs boiled with potato, napa cabbage, bay leaf, ginger and garlic. Add lemon and salt as garnish. Ive made soups with many more ingredients, and steps. Plus, when you have 3 plus to feed on a budget, its perfect.
