So my daughter has started middle school last month and she is doing really good but the homework is crazy and takes at least 2-3 hours a night. She got overwhelmed and I was trying to help her and she informed me, " I just don't understand the pressure of being a 6th grader". Right because I never was a 6th grader, just a single mom who gets zip in child support from her deadbeat dad and have bills and shit, but I don't know about pressure, ok. So I'm trying to talk calmly to her because I see the meltdown approaching and before I knew it she went into full 11 year old girl hormone meltdown crying speaking in tongues, you get the picture. So I calmly got up from the kitchen table walked to my purse and got my phone and started to record her. She said OMG what are you doing??? I said you have 1 minute to dry it up and calm yourself down or this is getting posted on Facebook and Instagram and I'm going to tag everyone you know and show them that you are in the running for Best Dramatic Performance on the next Academy Awards! And guess what? She sucked it up and calmed down! BAHAHAHAHAHAH Que evil laugh. Every time I think about it I start laughing, sometimes being a parent can be evil yet so fun haha. }:)

I'm slightly frustrated because around here (Southeastern Idaho) they try to make sure there is no homework... how can he learn to ask his parents for help, how do we know what he's learning?

She is just getting started on the drama. It will get worse, but if you can parent like this, it will be fine.

Yep I had her watch it later so she could see how over the top it was! She was embarrassed and it was a big reality check

I thought it was cute, but here's the deal:

You are instilling into her a fear of social media and peer pressure. She needs to feel safe with you, not exposed.

Hey, I do this too, I told my kids that if the teachers tell me anything negative about behavior or performance, I will show up in class with the fly swatter and swat their bums in the middle of the class. I never swat them, it was a joke, they got the message, it put some fear into them, but it also teaches them to fear peer pressure and not all kids can handle it (sounds like yours can, though).

I think this was totally appropriate for a teen. It happened to me when I was 7 - I was crying about going to 2nd grade and my dad told me he was recording me and going to play over the loudspeaker at school so everyone could hear what a whiny baby I was. Then it was damaging!
