I'm proud that he has accomplished this without being held back a year. He really struggles...some due to ADHD and some due to laziness. He's had summer school twice and was only boarder line passing twice. Until Monday we weren't even sure he was being moved up to Jr High next year.
There's no ceremony for parents but the kids have an in school banquet today. SS went to school in a shirt and tie. Part of the banquet involves letters of encouragement from the parents. The note came home about those on Monday and they were due back in a sealed envelope yesterday. Not a whole lot of time. I wrote him a very heartfelt page long letter. Dh wrote him a long paragraph...not sure what he wrote but I'm sure it was encouraging. I wrote bm on Facebook Monday night asking her to email me something and I would put it in his envelope for him. She never wrote back. Her profile is public (we aren't friends tho) so I can see she's been on FB posting stuff....but couldn't spare 5 minutes to write a quick note to her son that she hasn't seen in 2 years.
While on one hand I am proud of him....but on the other hand how sad is that? That graduating elementary school is an accomplishment. That it wasn't a given that he could handle passing elementary school. As much as he gets on my last nerve, I do really care for him. Sometimes I just look at him and just feel pity for him. I just can't see much success in his future. I want the best for him.....it just doesn't seem very likely.
Our SS11's promotion ceremony is tomorrow. SS11 has to work way harder than SS16 in school. He's has to go to summer school but at least he passsed all his classes.
SS11 gets on my last nerve as well but I do care about him and hope he's successful in life.
Congrats to SS11. My DD11 is also graduating 5th grade and they don't do a graduation ceremony either. That's sad that she couldn't take 5 minutes to write something nice. It just shows the type of person she is.
