Easter gift post got me thinking....what do you put in older kids easter baskets?

PeanutandSons's picture

The skids are 10 and 11, so getting a bit old for the usual chalk, bubbles, coloring book. But at the same time I dont want to spend a bunch of money. Any ideas for cheap little basket stuffers for preteens?

Wanna know what they're getting in our house? NOTHING! DH and I are leaving for the weekend and returning Easter Sunday. At which time we'll consider ordering take out!
Please, these stupid gift giving dilemmas are just ridiculous.

I put bathing suits and beach towels and flip flops. They need them every year anyway, and Easter is sort of the start of spring and warm weather.

A book? A DVD? A baseball or jump rope to play with outdoors maybe?

Unfreakingreal- I'm jealous! We're stuck with the hellions all day, except for the three hours they get with BM. THey'll come back reeking off cigarette smoke, cat pee and mildew and then we get to play the Disinfecting Game! Wheeee!

Thankfully, we don't have SD12 this year for Easter it's not our weekend so I planned a weekend getaway for DH and I. I'm surprised we haven't gotten the call from BM asking/TELLING my DH that SD wants to spend Easter at our house. Which sorry to say (not) WON'T happen because we already have our hotel reserved and everything. Too bad, guess BM will have to be the one to buy an outfit and actually spend some money on her kid.

Mine are 11, 13, and 15. Typically my girls g clothes- which being girls they love. My ds couldn't really care less about clothes so last year I gave him 25 .00 in cash in lieu of an outfit. I'm thinking maybe iTunes cards for all of them. I try not to spend too much or as the above poster suggested I try to give them something they were getting anyway.

I also do the flip-flops, sun glasses, beach towels, new swim suit or a new short outfit. Gives a jump on spring needs. For the girls sometimes make-up/nail polish or hair ties, my son is always happy with fishing lures.

bd is 18, and yes i will still be making her a basket. not because she expects it, but because i want to. i'll be giving her some skinny cow candy and a gift card so she can pick out an outfit and pair of sandals. nothing expensive, just a basic spring outfit.

I felt a little guilty giving cash And such at first but then realized I spent more than that when they were younger with all the candy, the basket, fake grass, plastic eggs, stuffed animals, and crap toys.

Now I get them their little gift and they may get just a couple pieces of candy.

Easter always felt like a spring version of Christmas for me growing up. My mom never bought me toys or anything aside from Christmas or my birthday, so Easter was her excuse to buy me something fun. It was usually one nice toy that I really wanted. Now that I have my boys, I want to do the same. They are only toddlers, so it's easy to buy little things for their Easter baskets. DH never treated Easter as anything special for SD21, but I will do what I want with our boys. I really like the beach/summer wear idea for when they're older!
