Question

Today at dinner time, it was just SS and me. DH made him a grilled cheese and chips and went to work. I was telling him that he needed to eat and get his homework put up because it was close to bed time. (Had issues earlier so earlier bed time). He proceeds to try to choke himself on his food. He stuffed his sandwich in his mouth and thinks it's funny because he's smiling about it and looking at me. When you are choking you don't smile! Has anyone had this problem before? If so or if not, what should I do? I might not like the kid as much as I used to, but I certainly don't want him to choke!

As long as he can cough or smile or speak he is not choking so as long as he is not turning red, falling off the chair or turning blue (if this is happening you may have waited a little too long to help him - lol) Ignore him he is just wanting you to give him attention - in fact get up from the table and go to the kitchen or the bathroom once he sees that he is not bothering you he will stop the fake choking - I am a nurse and believe me if he was really and truly choking he would be grabbing his throat and turning red and having a very very scared look on his face - you would know he was choking. You could also buy the choking card that is seen in most restaurants and when he does it the next time and he is smiling hold it up and tell him that he needs to learn how to choke for real }:) }:) }:)

Maybe he will have a harder time choking on pureed spinach, or really mushy cooked carrots. I think it's time to bust out a bowl of strained choking hazard-free peas. He can eat like a baby if he has not mastered big-people food. }:)
