O/T: What is your favorite book?
I read so much more in the winter than I do in the summer. Now that it is freezing outside and I avoid leaving the house if I can I'm trying to decide what to read next and if I am going to go with something new or a favorite. My all time favorites are To Kill A Mockingbird and Gone With The Wind. I read TKAM about once a year but the "Wind" is so long I don't read it annually.

Spring Came on Forever. By
Spring Came on Forever. By Bess Streeter Aldrich. Old, but soooo wonderful. I reread it every few years just to visit.
The Outlander series by Diane
The Outlander series by Diane Gabaldon is my all time favorite - I re-read the series when a new book comes out and occasionally when I have time to read which is almost never anymore.
I also love Last of the Breed by Louis L'Amour - it's is only non-western and it's about a Native American AF Test Pilot crash landing in Siberia and how he makes his way back to the US while being tracked by a Native Siberian Military Agent.
A friend at work is reading
A friend at work is reading the Outlander books too, and she loves them. I will have to check that out.
OMG My Sisters Keeper had my
OMG My Sisters Keeper had my crying so hysterically I cannot bring myself to watch the movie!
Mitch Albom has some good
Mitch Albom has some good books, normally not what I like to read but a really good writer. I like more of the David Baldacci, James Patterson, Tami Hoag who done it serial killer books.
One of my favorite books of all times (which I only read because I was forced to by my 11th grade English teacher.. God bless her!) is The Lord of the Flies... a classic and a great book!
The stinky cheese man...lol

My absolute favorite
My absolute favorite novels:
The History of Love by Nicole Krauss - this was so different than any other books I've read and remains at the top of my list
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen - intriguing story, and soon to be a movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson!
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - Read this book 3 times.
The Kitchen Boy by Robert Alexander - Historical fiction and intriguing story based on a true story...a fast read you can't put down
Yes!! Water For Elephants
Yes!! Water For Elephants was a great book! Again, not my usual read, but someone told me to read it and it was awesome. I didn't know it was going to be a movie!!
Anne of Green Gables, To Kill
Anne of Green Gables, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Time to Kill, The Manhattan Hunt Club
The Bridges of Madison County
The Bridges of Madison County is good if you want to cry.
On a more serious note, I
On a more serious note, I have always loved little women and re-read that from time to time.
I read the Hornblower series
I read the Hornblower series (11 books) by CS Forrester once every 2yrs or so. My dad gave them to me when I was ~12 and I loved them. I still do.
I enjoy historical fiction.
My wife has even read them and enjoys them.
I need to make the same sacrifice on the Harry Potter series since she and our kid enjoy those. But, I am about 18-20 years past my fantasy stage so it will be a chore.
Please please please read
Please please please read Cristopher Moore's The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal.
This book is so sarcastic and witty and hilarious I recommend it to anyone who will listen!!! Some other books:
The Count of Monte Cristo (anything by Alexandre Dumas actually)
Little Women
anything by Michael Crichton
the Alchemist
Don Quixote
One Hundred Years of Solitude
White Noise
Jacob Have I Loved (this is probably not age appropriate, I think I read it in middle school but it is a beautiful book)
There are lots more, but I think you already have more books than you will get around to reading this Christmas
OK now I am going to have to hit the library after work!!! lol.
I have read all of Chesley
I have read all of Chesley Handler's books. If you have seen her show and think she is funny- her books are HILARIOUS. They are NOT for those of you who might be more conservative and are rather raunchy but oh they make me laugh out loud!!
Woohoo books! Of Mice and
Woohoo books! Of Mice and Men-- Tell me about the rabbits, George! So classic.
If you like some pretty hardcore historical fiction, check out Amitav Ghosh's The Glass Palace (not to be confused with the popular The Glass Castle). It goes through three or four generations in Burma/India and vividly describes some surprisingly interesting endeavors like teak logging and rubber plantations (I know it sounds boring, but it's not!). It also covers many subtle details of colonial rule and post-colonialism in the region.
Cat's Cradle is one of my favorites. It's just funny as hell. Oh, and anything by Vladimir Nabokov. The guy was kind of a narcissistic bastard, but his use of the English language is just plain flawless and I love everything he's written.
I'm also fond of science fiction, and if you have any interest I'd recommend Solaris (it's nowhere near as long as the movie, and makes more sense), and Parable of the Sower (kinda creepy 80s doom and gloom). They definitely make you think!
For less brain-power, totally Sookie Stackhouse books (amen luckyduck!).
