Not Really News but Interesting: ADHD and Sleep Apnea

TheOtherMom's picture

SS9 tosses and turns all night, walks in his sleep, talks in his sleep ... all of it. He sleeps for about 12 hours on Friday night into Saturday morning and still wakes up tired.
He also has ADHD.

I took him to the doc today to see if he has sleep apnea and if that is causing his ADHD. They submitted him for his sleep study. I hate to say it but I really hope he has sleep apnea so we can treat that and get him off the ADHD meds. The meds kill his appetite and he can get so irritable. Say nothing about his grades or behavior in school!

Why blog about this on ST? Because I had to interact with BM today which is extremely minimal anyway but DH couldn't answer a question about something that happened when SS9 was visiting BM this summer ... so I text her.
She instantly reacted with "Why are YOU taking him to the doc and not DH? What's wrong with him? Why are you not telling me what is happening?" ... I understand her "reaction" which to a stranger may seem like BM is concerned. But she was on the defense.

I know she is angry that I am taking care of him but this has been going on for so long that at what point will she just let it go? I am here to stay and can't watch these children fall to pieces. It is not in my nature, nor character to let them.

im glad your SS's have you in their life. What does bm expect? Seriously!? A lot of the time (not all the time) women are more of the 'nurturers' than men are, she needs to just get OVER the fact that you are there. I know if I was the NCP I might feel somewhat differently, but nothing could ever take me away from my children, I would have to have them atleast 50/50. But anyywayy I hope they figure out what is wrong with your SS and hopefully he can be taken off the adhd pills!
