O/T crazy religious aunt and uncle and their belief of rape

My aunt and uncle are the type that women wear long skirts and long sleeves and not allowed to wear make up. So anyway i am so not that type of person. But I also don't go out trying to show I got either. I'm jeans and t shirt girl or shorts and tank.

One day I was walking from my home to my gma home as we lived 1 block from each other. Well this car of guys drove by and whistled at me. i'm not going to lie it felt kinda good. When I got to to my gma I told my dad what happened my mistake was saying it in front of my uncle. He waited til my dad left to tell me it was my fault that if I got raped for the way I was dressed. Now I was wearing shorts and a tank hair in pony and no make up. I wasn't walking to get attention or the like. Then of course my aunt had to pipe up and say that its not the mans fault b/c he was thinking with his ding dong! Even if a man cheats not his fault either :jawdrop:

I told my dad what happened he went off my them!! GO DAD!

Well anyway that was a long time ago but what got me thinking of this is that yesterday dh and I went to a theme park and it was gospel week so a lot of people that wore the long skirts no make up and it got me thinking....What if rape happened to them and they feel it is not the mans fault but they are covered and never did anything to 'ask' for rape? Would they change their minds? Or blame themselves?

I'm also sure that the old women that are raped didn't 'ask' for it either. But these men are sick! i just couldn't imagine growing up thinking that even if I did NOTHING to 'ask' for rape that it would be my fault. How messed up these young girls are that are taught this?

That is sad! Good for your dad too btw. Rape is an act of violence, not sexual lust that is out of control because a gal looks too good to resist in her tank top and shorts. Sheesh! I can't believe people think that. And if they are raised to think that and they get raped, they will probably always view it as their own fault - maybe not because of what they wore, but they will find something to blame themselves for it happening. So sad and so wrong.

However Their oldest girl got out and she and I have a great relationship and she has nothing to do with them anymore. which is sad in itself but they really are nasty people. They even went so far as to tell us that my dads name will make sure that he goes to hell unless he changes it, :?

then my aunt sent a mess on face book tell me that my dad is not my dad and some other stuff. She stalked me on face book til I reported her and she made 2 more accounts to stalk me all reported. She no longer has contact!

But yesterday got me to thinking about these poor girls and how the are messed up b/c of this belief.

I like that thanks ladyface. I did tell my aunt "so there is this thing called self control!" She got so mad at me that she would talk to me after that. Then she tried it again while gma was in the hospital trying to convince my mom of this so i again said something about self control and my other aunt I thought was going to fall out of her chair laughing so hard. I called her out that day hard core in front of her sisters! LOL

I would like to know if more women get out b/c of this crap? My dh told b/c I was talking to him about it said he really does hope that the more girls get out the better as they really do get the short end of the stick.

I did ask one time why women had to wear skirts and no pants. I was told that it was the way they dressed when jesus was on the earth. So I asked why didn't men wear robes then? They didn't have an answer. lol

My aunt is very religious. She also wears long skirts, long hair, no make-up, and dresses very modest. We have disagreed on some things, and love each other anyway, she is one of my favorite people in the world.

She told me that she and her church believe in dressing modestly, to keep their flesh covered, that it is only for their husbands. She has told me that women dont wear pants, that is for the man (lol i know). My two cousins (one boy one girl) were raised this way also, my girl cousin wore long skirts and they were both home schooled. My girl cousin is grown now, and dresses how she wants, but never like a hooch. She has 2 daughters that wear whatever also. My boy cousin married a girl from their church that sometimes wears long skirts, and also shorts. They are all super close. I wish I lived closer! My girl cousin is married with 3 small kids and stays home and her hubby is a tech geek, makes real good money. My boy cousin has a pretty good job in construction. Both took online college classes. If you ran into them somewhere you would never know they were raised any different, they are not wierd or shy or uneducated or anything.

Anyway, there is no FRIKKIN way my aunt or uncle would EVER say that a girl was raped because of how she dresses....or that it's not the man's fault! My aunt has said that dressing for 'attention' will get you 'attention' you may not like, but men make their own choices and it's a man's DUTY to have self control.....

Just wanted to say that not all people who are super religious and in long skirts are so ridiculous or ignorant....like I said, my aunt and I don't agree on every single thing 100%, but she's an awesome person and she genuinely loves and cares for people, especially her family, no matter their personal choices.
