Social security benefits?

I was wondering, would SS be able to collect social security benefits because his mother died? SS is 18 but he will be a full-time student in September. Anyone know anything about this?

actually, I was slightly incorrect..... payble until the dependent is 18, or 19 if still attending secondary (high) school.

Just an aside... that link states 19 if still attending elementary school or secondary school. Be curious to see that 19 year old 5th grader....

I was adopted and when Regan was in office he changed the age from 21 to 18 - so it stops when the kid is 18 - sorry no SS for you Stepson but most parents are not expected to pay for their child after 18 or graduating high school anyway - and maybe the mother had a insurance policy in place.

Sorry meant to add my father was killed when I was 4 and I received SS benefits until I turned 18.
