Well, what would you say is
Well, what would you say is your 'problem areas'? What aspect of your diet would you say is unhealthy and needs to be improved?
I think the quickest, easiest way to improve your diet is to go vegetarian. You will cut out like 80 percent of the fat and cholesterol from your diet right off the bat.
i thought about starting like
i thought about starting like that. the main meat i eat is chicken, turkey and venison. my main problem is snacking at work. i started bringing an apple and chex mix to cut down on the vending machine and i drink too many caffinated bedverages for my liking. i have a coffee or redbull every morning and at home i drink sweet tea. im working on a bottle of water now.
You should really cut back
You should really cut back (and eventually out) the sugared drinks. You would be surprised at how many sugars are in a serving of sweet tea and red bull...and you should NEVER drink your calories. The high sugar drinks (and/or snacks) are what makes your sugar levels go way up, and then they crash down later and make you feel sluggish. You'd also probably be surprised at how many extra calories you are consuming every day just from drinks! And switch to decaf coffe... little to no calories there and if you are planning on getting prego you will need to cut the caffiene out anyway, so you might as well work on it now.
My DH used to be addicted to classic coke, I got after him about the amount of sugar he was consuming every day, so he switched to sweet tea... argh... he thinks he's being healthier (which he is to a certain extent) but I had to point out the other day that the sweet tea has almost as many sugars as the dang coke!
oh and if you're at all like
oh and if you're at all like me, I am not a huge fan of "eating my fruits and veggies" but if they are in smoothies, then they taste so much better! Here is one that a friend turned me on to... sounds gross, but they are awesome, filling and sooo good for you!
Green Monster Smoothie
in blender
combine 1 cup skim, almond or soy milk
1 container greek yogurt (I like vanilla)
I frozen banana cut into pieces (cut banana up and put in a ziplock and put in the freezer prior to making)
As much whole leaf spinich as you can shove in the blender
Mix and enjoy... you really don't taste the spinich at all, just the banana but you are getting all the antioxidant and healthy benefits of all that spinich. It's really filling too, I can actually replace a meal with one of these and not feel hungry at all.
When I was trying to conceive
When I was trying to conceive my obgyn put me on prenatal vitamins. Have you looked into that at all?
i do have prenatals. i have
i do have prenatals. i have been on them since my IUD came out in Nov. and there has been no BC since and no conception so i was wondering if it was maybe my diet. when i got pregnant with my daughter i weighed 128 lbs and was a ballet dancer now im closer to 150 and not really doing anything im not the best self motivator when it comes to working out. classes and structure work better for me. I am going to buy a pilates video on my way home because i do love pilates so maybe i will work out more with that.

I keep unsalted mixed nuts at work, also clementines, cheese and crackers, grapes, carrots/dips. Grape and cherry tomatoes.
what kind of dips do you use?
what kind of dips do you use?
Just light veggie dips. They
Just light veggie dips. They come in ranch, dill, etc. Usually they are where the fresh veggies are the grocery store.
Snacking is fine..... It's
Snacking is fine..... It's just a matter of what are you snacking on. Fruit, yogurt, cheese, veggie sticks, nuts..... All good. Snack cakes and chips....bad.
Water, and green tea (unsweetened) are much better than coffee/soda. I give up all caffine and artificial sugar when ttc and pregnant.
Also, not diet related, have you been tracking your cycles? Do you know if/when you are ovulating each month? You may just have your timing off.
yes i found a tracker online
yes i found a tracker online that you input your info and it keeps track for you.. when getting prengant with my daughter it was a complete oh sh*t moment i was on BC used a condom and pulled out. im starting to wonder if there is something wrong with me.
I made a couple of changes to
I made a couple of changes to my diet several years ago that helped me lose weight and conceive:
- swapped breakfast treats (donuts, cereal, etc.) for apples
- swapped chips for carrot sticks
- no more carbonated beverages, water is best
Those 3 changes made a big impact for me and I lost about 35lbs. in 1 year. That was about 7-8 years ago and the weight has stayed off, even after 2 babies.
I went gluten-free the beginning of this year and I've lost another 4 lbs and 2 pants sizes - and that's without exercise. Bread is not my friend! LOL
what all did you have to cut
what all did you have to cut out when you went gluten-free?
I started by cutting out
I started by cutting out bread, pasta and any baked goods - cookies, muffins, crackers, etc. Now I'm looking for wheat that is hidden in other foods - cream soups use flour as thickener, for example. I won't lie - it is difficult at first! But now, I don't miss those foods because they make me feel horrible when I eat them - bloated, constipated, itchy skin, etc.
There are lots of gluten-free substitutes for bread, crackers, etc. but I don't like them - taste like cardboard, lol! I just eat a lot more veggies these days.
I have been TTC for over a
I have been TTC for over a year and a half. In addition to your diet, you might want to get some ovulation predictor kits to find out exactly when you are ovulating every month. The app trackers are nice, but they tend to be set up on the "standard" cycle i.e. 28 day cycle, ovulating at day 14...this isn't true for everyone. Try those out and see how it works for you.
I got on a health kick a
I got on a health kick a while ago, and have since HAD to eat healthy b/c of a medical diagnosis. I think the easiest thing is to do it a little at a time. If you change your entire diet at once you probably wont like it or stick to it. I started off by cutting out ALL sodas and fast food. Theres no getting around how bad they are for you. Then I started buying organic. Then came gluten free. You should research "health foods" for TTC. I know that there are some taht are supposedly better than others.
