We all bitch about being step parents or we wouldn't be here. Here is a happy story...

I fell on Tuesday and broke my ankle-went to Ortho today and it is broken in 3 places and need surgery tomorrow morning. My wonderful SS10 opted out of a "fun day" with his maternal grandparents ( and it would be a fun one) to go with us to surgery at 5 am.

I am pretty upset about it all and 3 months not walking, working or driving that will follow. I went to the dining room to eat tonight because SS13 is also in a wheelchair and it doesn't fit at the kitchen table. SS10 grabbed his dinner and came and sat with me in the dining room. He knows the responsbilty he is going to have to take on - and said to me " That Chemistry set you didn't buy me for Chistmas, is in there- and pointed to the kitchen- you will teach me to cook".

Please note that almost 2 years ago I had to stand on my head and beg her to eat at the table with him. She and SS13 would eat on TV trays in front of the TV and he was eating alone in the kitchen. She bitches that we are crazy for eating with him and how stupid we are. We all need to eat together they are my family and I want to know what is going on in their world and tell them about mine. Sorry- just a family value that is important to me.

Not that my work is done- it is just realized and I am getting my work back in spades. I like him and his thoughts and more importantly value him in my life. And today I saw he loves me and values me too!

That makes this stepmama proud!

I may deal with a lot of bullshit - but my stepsons and my bio son are the best. It is going to be a hard 3 months- but we will work it all out.
