18th bday/college

for those of you that have come across this age...what was the birthday gift given?
Dh wants to give ss17 $1,000 for college expenses (i think he'll blow it on something stupid)
He has already told ss17 that we will be helping him with furnishing dorm room stuff, DH breifly talked about getting him a laptop or computer also.
I thought that was nice of DH to offer the money, but i dont' think it's a good idea. I think use the $1000 to buy as much actual items as possible and have the rest on reserve if he needs it for books or something.

ahhhhhh.
Saturday I went and had my haircut and highlighted. Came home feeling good - DH said it looked nice.
weather was wonderful so my dog and I played in the yard saturday and sunday. it was just a good weekend.
i got my before skid arrival chores done so DH gets to clean the new messes.
i'm goign to work later than normal tonight adn miss the skid meal with the grandparents. Dh will be busy with work also adn the thought of listening to the inlaws oh and ah over the skids isn't that appealing right now. think i may stop and get a mani on the way home.

i was installing a new wireless device for my laptop. all the main computer stuff is in ss17's room. his computer is shot with viruses and what not so i was using my laptop to get the wireless working. had to actually use the main internet connection before making wireless.

put off tasks?

the skids are coming Sunday night since there is no school Monday. I had planned to get groceries tonight but due to the skids update (weren't going to visit until an oil change was due - AKA BM claims she's too busy and ss17 doesn't want to pay for it himself so lets make dad pay for it!!) so I'm now thinking I'll just wait until Monday night to go shopping. I have done the hide my food thing and DH thinks it's rude. I bring snacks to work (crackers, string cheese nothing fancy) but before I started hiding or marking my food as dakota's lunch it would be devoured.

stepmonster backlash

So i've been reading Stepmonster and had it sitting out on the living room table because i'll read it when DH is watching something on TV i dont care about. My DH's parents came over this weekend to babysit my dog while we were away for the day - didn't even think about the book being out. MIL has been quiet to me ever since. I'm wondering if she's pissed when she saw the book and thinking what could be wrong with her darling grandchildren that i have to get a book to cope and understand things with them.

skids and your extended family

the skids went home Monday and it has been SSSSOOOOOOOO nice at home. quite, peaceful, DH and i are awesome. we have plans to go to my hometown this weekend for a family function and the skids have other plans which is great. they have met my mother and sister once and i see no reason for them to meet the rest of my family because they are not my family and i don't want to involve them with my family. is this wrong?? Do you involve your skids with your extended family functions?

so I'm reading stepmonster while my DH is golfing and i have the house to myself. DH honored my request to make his kids wait until sunday to come since they were staying longer than weekend. I didnt see a point in them being here while we had a friend from out of town here visiting and they planned on golfing all day today. i said it would be unfair to have the kids here and we wouldn't be. he agreed and said to stay with bm til sunday then come til wednesday.

ss15 went home Saturday morning and DH and I have had a wonderful time. We went shopping and I bought a few things to make things easier on DH and I when we're working outside. It was a very relaxing few days that were left of the skid weekend. I wish DH would see the stress SS15 causes. he said it was the best week the two of them have had in a long time, i'm thinking it was the worst I've ever had. i'm still reading stepmonster when i can find 5 minutes to do it.
