O/T: Just need to vent
My niece has not turned out to be the most responsible adult/parent. She is 21 and is pregnant with child No. 3, doesn't work, her husband is employed off and on, second child has severe medical problems my niece refuses to address and the child is understimulated to the point she seems mentally handicapped. When someone mentions the fact that maybe my niece should cut down on the childbearing and focus on the ones she already has, she just shrugs and says she can't make any promises. I think you can see where I am going with this.
Anyway, she was just in a car accident at 1 a.m. WITH both of her existing children (and obviously the one on the way) in the car with her. The story is she was going to pick up her husband from work who spontaneously decided to stay late. So she got a 2 year old and a 1 year old out of their beds at 1 a.m. to drive on dark country roads with no shoulders to pick up her husband.
I just shake my head. You decide to stay late at work and you have two (nearly three) small children, you find your own way home. I'm sure they need the money and I'm glad he is currently working, but there have got to be other ways than to drag the two babies out of bed. The lady who hit her had fallen asleep at the wheel.
OK, vent over.

Oldest child was transported
Oldest child was transported via ambulance to hospital, as was niece. My brother was called to take emergency custody of youngest child, and they are still monitoring my niece in case she goes into early labor.
