Back off the dog!
Like many around here, I love my dog more than I love my SS5.
There is some tension right now because the dog can get up in SS5's face a little bit, and he used to be scared of the dog. Now, he hams it up to get attention. He'll play with the dog, and then wait for his dad to look. As soon as his dad looks SS pretends to be afraid so that my DH will make the dog go in her crate. I believe that if SS doesn't want the dog to be hear him then he shouldn't initiate playing with her.
SS will try to command the dog to go outside, into her crate, etc. And while I believe the kid should be higher in the pecking order than the dog, a large part of me just wants to tell the kid to shut up and leave my dog alone.
Sigh.

OMG! You're a hyperbole and a half fan too? Very subtle reference
I have yelled at the skid
I have yelled at the skid about how she treats the dog.
Back when SD14 was 11 or 12, she would play rough with him and get him riled up. He was a young dog, and is mid-sized to big; so when he gets rowdy, he can knock you over if you're not careful. SD would get tired of playing, and try to walk away, but the dog thought they were still playing, and would jump around at her. She then proceeded to KICK MY DOG to get him away. OH HELL NO!!!
I know it's different; your SS is 5, but you are absolutely right. It's never too early to teach a child how to treat an animal, or how to behave around one.
She never actually hit him -
She never actually hit him - but she got yelled at by both of us and sent to her room. We've worked with her on how to behave around the (now two of them) dogs, and she's a lot better.
Oh man I love my dog too!! My
Oh man I love my dog too!! My dog loves food - he is a beagle and is just in love with food - so I do my very best to keep him away when we are eating and cooking, whatever. He listens, he is a good dog. My SD12 would sit on the floor and eat something and get pissed when the dog would get in her face a little....or if she was just SITTING ON THE FLOOR (the dog is not allowed on our furniture) she would get pissed if he was in her face. I caught her pushing him and being a brat. So finally I said: He is a dog. If you do not want him in your face, get off the floor and sit on the furniture. You cannot treat the dog poorly.
Pissed me off. Nobody messes with my dog.
Oh and she complained about my dog all the time and kept saying she wanted a beagle of her own...so her BM bought her one..one day they were driving to our house for the weekend to visit and someone was selling them on the side of the road and BM bought one. SD doesn't even shower daily - or brush her teeth, we have to remind her - so I am not sure how she is responsible enough for a dog. Then the BM told us that we would be responsible for watching it when she was with us EOWE and twice a week. HELL NO. I got mad about that one. The dog doesn't stay here.
My 2 year old cocker spaniel
My 2 year old cocker spaniel is my fur baby!! My dog is really curious as he's still young - if you're doing something near the ground he always comes and sniffs - when I pack my gym bag his head is right in it!
SS7 was putting his shoes on and was in a grumpy mood & my dog was sticking his nose in his shoes sniffing .. I was watching from the couch thinking if I see dog's getting in the way I'll get him to stop since he won't listen to SS's little voice .. next thing I know little sh*t takes his fist and starts pounding my dog's back!! Like WTF?!?!?! I yelled at him like him and DH had never heard me yell before ... "DO NOT HIT THE DOG".
I'm sure I must have looked like I wanted to do the same back to SS - actually worse (won't even mention the rage I wanted to take out on him) cause DH quickly disciplined him & sent his little crying ass to his room.
Hasn't done it since ... and he sure better not do it again
