O/T – Rude People…or just ignorant?

We have been trying to schedule a fish fry for friends and family and finally settled on a date that would work for most of the people we have invited. I sent email invitations to several, texts to some and called or spoke to others. I was very clear about the time, date, etc. and asked for a RSVP so we would have an idea of how much fish to thaw, side items to make and/or purchase. Do people not have a clue what RSVP means?? Even after I explain we need a head count?? It’s like, ‘yeah we’ll probably be there’ (unless something better comes up is the impression I get) OMG!! Are people really that freaking ignorant or rude? At one of the parties we hosted, we had friends call at the last minute and ask to bring her sister & her boyfriend, knowing full well we had plans with our just our friends afterwards that wouldn’t allow additional guests. For the fish fry, I had my friend ask to bring 3 additional guests - OMG! Maybe I’m just naïve, but if someone invites you to a cookout, party, whatever and asks for an RSVP, either you want to go or you don’t – how hard is it to make a decision?

At this point, I’m ready to say screw it and cancel the whole damn thing but that wouldn’t be fair to the ones who have made the effort to respond and want to attend. I’m sure Ms Manners would be mortified if I sent emails to all the inconsiderate jerks who won’t give me a definite answer and just tell them the reservation period is now CLOSED. Arrraggghhh!! Thanks for letting me rant….

It's true. People seem to be more and more self obessed and they seem completely oblivious to others and their feelings. People are very rude and disrespecful nowadays Sad It's very sad.

Have you tried sending out a second note? Something like, just a reminder of the party and that I need to know who's coming. Then give a list of people who've already confirmed, and tell them to let you know if they're planning on attending and don't see their names on the list?

Yes both DH & I have been on the phone, texting, calling & emailing this afternoon and evening. It's so ridiculas, either you're coming or you're not - a simple yes or no. One of his friends actually told him he has a date with a new woman the night before the fish fry and that will determine whether or not he can make it. WTF??? So if he gets lucky and gets laid, he can't make it to a 1 pm fish fry the next day? Double WTF???!!! Okay, there's a lesson in here - I will NEVER try to organize another fish fry, party , cookout, nothing....ever again....this sux!!!
