Kindergarten Graduation Brunch

Yesterday was SS6 kindergarten graduation. I was unable to attend because it was at the same time as my BD7 awards ceremony at her school. DH and I went to MIL’s house last night to get some of our stuff out of her basement and DH and MIL were talking about the graduation. Well MIL went out to eat with SS, BM, BM’s other 2 small children with her new husband that she cheated on DH with(those girls are like 2 and 3 years old), BM’s mother and BM’s aunt who takes care of SS most of the time when he’s “with” BM on her time.

MIL was complaining about how horrible SS’s sisters’ behavior was. She said they were all over the place and so loud that they couldn’t have a conversation and the server even went to her own car to get crayons to entertain the girls while they were there. I sooo wanted to point out that that is exactly how SS acts, yet she doesn’t see it because he is her darling grandson! Those girls are nothing to her so she wasn’t blind to their behavior! I hate going anywhere with SS because of the way he acts but she doesn’t see most of it and expects me to think he’s wonderful. I wanted to tell her to imagine living with those girls 50% of the time and then tell me how much you love them and how sweet they are, lol!

I hate feeling like I need to keep my mouth shut but I know if I speak up every time I thought something I’d definitely be hated, lol. I would like to try and keep the peace but I don’t know how long I can do it.

Yep, glad I found this site. I kept my mouth shut last night, but at least I got to get it out here! Smile

I completely understand where you're coming from.

In my situation, it's my husband who has the rose-colored glasses on when it comes to his daughter. When he sees other kids misbehaving in public, he always comments about how if they were his kids he'd discipline them make sure they didn't act that way, etc. But SD8 can display the same kind of behavior and he thinks it's cute or funny and doesn't think she's misbehaving at all.

It's very frustrating to witness, and it's definitely hard not to say something, LOL.

That sounds like the most awkward meal ever with that group of people around the table. Ahhhhhhh mother in laws..... :? :? :?

MIL said she only went because she wanted to take SS out for graduation, but it was BM's day so she had to go with them. Uh, no, take him another day like normal people would! I'm just glad DH didn't go or I would have been upset!

OK I am still stuck on Kindergarten graduation.... Who fails kindergarten? Who needs to graduate Kindergarten with a meal and atta-boys all around? What happened to ... "And next year you will all be in the First Grade. Well done class! Now let's all share the cupcakes we bought. Now Sally, please do not eat the Peanut Butter Reeses Brownies unless you have your Epi-Pen already stabbed in your leg.""
