When to say "Enough" and sever ties.
Forums:
When does one just say "Enough"? I have a S.S that is 18 and in jail AGAIN for theft. The kid is lazy, shiftless and a thief. His mother is afraid of him, and I'm just sick of him. (Sorry, I have to vent or my head will fall off) I love my wife, and she loves me. We are happy together and even like each other but I'm literally at the end of my psychological rope with this kid. He's been getting worse for a decade now, and I know that if something doesn't give soon, I will wind up divorced. I just cannot deal with this anymore.
Had to vent........sorry.
This is a personal decision.
This is a personal decision. For me, personally, it's "before the meds." If things start getting bad enough for me in a situation that I need to seek therapy to help deal with the situation, I'm ok with that so long as the therapy is working and I'm allowed the time to go to therapy. However, when it becomes obvious therapy is not working well enough and the doc starts talking meds, it's time for me to change the situation I'm in.
This is good. I like this.
This is good. I like this. Meds vs. therapy decision.
My ss is 17, and I wish he
My ss is 17, and I wish he was 18--we would kick him out and move on with our life together. Have a frank discussion with your wife about how you feel, that having him in your life/your home is simply enabling him to continue his destructive behavior, and its time for "tough love". You like each other, love each other, and you're happy together. That's worth hanging on to, and it doesn't sound like your ss respects that at all. Don't throw away the relationship for him--he won't appreciate it, and his mother will continue to live in fear.
In nine short months, I'll be in your shoes! I'm ready for it, just not dealing well with the time until then!
Good luck!
