Mother-in-law issues...

So this weekend we went to visit my mother in law, and not surprisingly she had bought a big toy for my daughter and a baseball shirt for my stepson. She will do this every second weekend, and I don't think kids should be given big gifts like that so often. We don't do that, so it makes the kids (stepson mainly) favour his grandma and always want to go over there, or her to come to our house (which happens far too often for my liking).

Anyway, when my mother in law gave him the baseball shirt he said "where's my toy? I want a toy!". I told him to say thank you for the shirt. We went home after that, and his grandma arrived about an hour later with a remote control four wheeler! No 'thank you' was said, and he starts driving the thing around. I kept playing my PS3, not really paying attention. My wife knows how I feel about her Mum buying stuff all the time.

Next thing, he's driving the car into the cat. He is always hurting the cats and being rough with them. I said "DO NOT RUN INTO THE CATS OR YOU LOSE THE TOY". His grandma says "you have to keep in mind that (my wife) killed kittens when she was young". I was like, what the ****??? I did not know this, and she certainly doesn't harm any animals now. But my reaction to he saying that, was HOW DOES THAT MAKE IT OKAY???!!! Just because she apparently did it once it's okay for him to torment and hurt the cats?

This whole situation raises my blood pressure and I feel like it'll be the death of me.

Your wife needs to get a handle on her mom. ASAP

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS! Holy shit. Any woman that flippantly says "my daughter used to kill kittens, let my grandboy hurt the cat, it's fine" needs her fucking head examined.

I stopped communicating with my MIL and I'm a better person because of it. My husband and my Skids can associate with her all they want, but she crossed a line and I'm not budging. After 10 years of her rude behavior, ignorance and snide remarks I finally said enough. Of course, I'm the bad guy but who cares. My life is drama free.

Mine doesn't buy things constantly, she creates drama. I can't count the number of times she's cried or boo hooed because of looking at a picture or a piece of left over wrapping paper. Anything to get attention. I swear to you if I broke my leg, she would turn it into something about her. I have COPD and pulmonary fibrosis and was ill for a while. She developed various symptoms while I was ill for attention. I told my husband that I was going to tell her I have syphilis to see if she gets that too. LOL

OMG about the cat thing!
and i completely understand about your blood pressure. mine is thru the roof right now bec. i had an issue with my MIL today. she is nothing but a crazy bitch. plus, she is a big enabler when it comes to the kids. i don't think it's right to give a kid so much without them working for it. i could go on and on, but i'll stop here.
:O

Oh and I'd take the stupid truck away from the kid IMMEDIATELY, whack him with it and ask him how he likes it?
