Thanksgiving in Canada

Too old for this's picture

Today was Thanksgiving in Canada.  It is not as big a holiday as it is in the US.  But is still is a day to stop and ponder our blessings.

For the first time in 16 years I did not organize SKs to come over for a family dinner.   I told DH to let me know if he wanted them.  He did not ask and they did not come, call or contact us.  This is consistent with their conduct - take and don’t give back. Indeed, I am never contacted, invited or included. It is all about them. So it made sense that they never even called to say hello.

We had a lovely day on our own.  Lesson learned.

Ahhh, sounds like you had a very nice, adult skid-free Thanksgiving.

Good for you for not organizing them to come over. I stopped trying to plan any holidays around the adult skids since they would either pull a last minute no-show, make excuses for being hours late or invite friends and other people we didn't plan for or just cause trouble. DH and I have nice holidays now when they are not around. A skidfree holiday = a drama-free holiday.

You are right though, isn't it always the same thing that it's always all about them every holiday. A while back the adult skids tried and basically begged DH to see them and the gskids during Christmas. They made it all about that DH must spend his Xmas with the gskids and them. They went so far as enlisting poisoned relatives to manipulate DH. DH wanted a drama-free holiday so he told them "Nope". Hopefully, this year they don't try the same BS.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I am glad that you and DH had a nice drama free day.
