Would you let skids come over with cold sores?

Two of my 3 skids have constant cold sores. Myself and my children have never had them and I never want any of us to catch them. I recently went to the doctor to ask about preventative treatment for skids, and the doctor also talked about how highly contagious they are, which I knew. But what I didn't know was that if they lay all over the cushions or pillows they can shed and leave the virus there for my children to collect. Now I feel like I don't even want them here when they have them. Am I being unreasonable?

Try Lysine my Dr. Recommended 1000 mg for me as an adult. I haven't has one in over a year. I'm unsure of a dose for a child.

Thanks for the replies. I just despise cold sores and they are more dangerous than everyone thinks. Of course that is in extreme cases. I am just a worrier. I turn everything in to a worst case scenario. Very bad habit but I have done this since a tiny little mole killed my husband. Melanoma.

I don't think melanoma is contagious, though. Nor spawned from cold sores. As sorry as I am for your loss, I think you're overthinking this.

Fever blisters can be treated with acyclovir or Valtrex, just like the genital lesions. It really shortens the duration of the outbreaks, and makes the interval between them longer, kind of a remission. Get a prescription from the doc for the antiviral drug, and use as needed. They will really thank you when they are teens. Some triggers for an outbreak: sun exposure (use lip balms with sunscreen), any trauma to the lip area like getting hit with something, lack of certain nutrients. Ice is helpful when the lesion is first developing.

Yes. They are humans after all. It's like saying they cant come over if they have a wart, cold, canker sore.

You are making a bigger deal out of this then need be.

I get cold sores. I have had 3 serious relationships (lived together, 1 being FDH) and none of them have ever had a cold sore.
