I had my baby!
I haven't had time to get on the computer to update you all!
Sophia Hope was born on August 12. She weighed 7 lbs 2 oz, and was 21 inches long. We had a bit of a bumpy ride...she had some seizure activity on her second day of life, and they discovered she had a mass of some sort in the left temporal lobe of her brain. So we spent a week in the NICU, meeting with neurologists and neurosurgeons. She's had four MRIs of her brain. At first the neurosurgeon was telling me and my husband that he thought what they were seeing was a tumor, and that Sophia was going to have to have brain surgery and chemotherapy. I was such a wreck, I can't even tell you. But after further MRIs, the doctors concluded that Sophia had a blockage in a vein in her brain which caused some bleeding. Apparently, this should simply resolve itself over time. The seizures were because of the irritation from the bleeding, and those should end when the bleeding is resolved (the doctor described it like a bruise healing...takes time but eventually its like it didn't even happen). So until its all resolved, we have Sophia on anti-seizure medication. But she's home with us now and is doing great!
As far as SD, she seems to have really come around now that Sophia is home. When Sophia was in the hospital, and DH and I were very focused on Sophia, SD was NOT happy....she was, I'm sure, feeling like she'd been right all along and now nothing mattered except the baby. She said awful things like "I don't care if she dies, she's just gonna be a retard anyways." Thankfully I was so focused on my baby that I just didn't care what SD had to say.
But now that we're all home, SD seems to really love the baby. She wants to hold her all the time and is always talking about her with her friends. I'm still wary about it, and I still won't leave SD along with Sophia, but hopefully I'll get more comfortable as time goes by.....
So...just wanted to update every one! Hope all is well.
Congratulations Jess
