OT - Crazy high pulse

savemysanity's picture

I've been dealing with high blood pressure and a high pulse for four years now (the amount of time SO and I have been together...coincidence? I think not). My pulse was staying between 90-110, sometimes in the 120s. My doctor has never seemed worried about my pulse. Now that I'm on the right meds, my blood pressure is (kinda) normal, and my pulse has been in the 60s. I ran out of one of my pills three days ago (I picked up the prescription today) and my pulse has shot up to 135. I feel like I could pass out every time I stand up. I'm having a glass of wine right now, and trying to just relax and breathe deeply, but does anyone else have this problem? And what do you do about it? I've always thought it was a panic attack, but now I'm thinking my heart rate is making me feel panicked.

DO NOT STOP TAKING beta blockers like Metoprolol suddenly, you can have a heart attack!
If you want to come off, you have to do it gradually!
Make sure that you never run out.
I took this medicine for a year, (horrible side effects for me), and I had to find a doctor who weaned me off.

Ugh! I will NEVER run out of my Metoprolol again! Yesterday was HORRIBLE! I'm on 200 mg, and also 25 mg of HCT. I'm 40 years old, eat well, and am average size. I do smoke, but I still attribute my high BP to the SKs. lol. My SO also has GREAT blood pressure numbers, smh.

Thanks, guys. My pulse is around 95 now. I've been monitoring it tonight. I'm feeling better, my chest still feels a little tight... but I've been through this before and have had doctors dismiss my concerns. I finally feel like I can get some sleep. I will update you in the morning .

My bp today is staying around 127/76 which is amazing for me. And my pulse is 63. I am feeling so much better today. I did not realize missing two or three days of the Metoprolol would matter that much! Geez!
