a new low, read it to believe it
I cannot believe what just transpired in our house. I am lying in bed writing this on the BlackBerry, so I hope it comes out okay. I live with BF and SS11 and have always known SS isn't quite right. Tonight BF and I are having a late dinner as usual, talking after dinner,as usual. It is 11 PM or so and SS (we assume) is asleep as dad tucked him in awhile ago. The cat starts hissing at the bathroom door which is 5 feet from where we are sitting. I try to talk to the cat. "what is wrong with you crazy cat?" She continues to hiss. The bathroom is dark. What is she doing? Then I nearly pee myself as the bathroom door creeps open an inch, still dark. I instantly fear we are all going to die as a robber must be hiding in the dark bathroom waiting for us to go to bed until the cat discovered him. Just as I am in a total panic, the door opens another inch. That little f_ _k! SS was hiding in the dark bathroom eavesdropping on us! I couldn't believe it! That sneaky bastard. Ready for the best part? I kid you not. The only thing my BF had to say about this event is that there is something wrong with my cat for hissing. OMG, someone save me!Is the little freak spying for himself? for BM? (I shudder at the thought). Is he just a little pervert who likes to watch is kiss at night? My head is spinning.
Hahaha omg i think he is
Hahaha omg i think he is spying, my SD10 does the same thing and when my dh and i asked her why she was doing it she said bm tells her to spy on us to see what we say about her.
Very creepy if you ask me, I
Very creepy if you ask me, I don't know anyone who does that?
BM would have to be sick to ask to be told what you guys say, but there you go, I believe it!
Be sure to do a spy check now, before you try to go to sleep-!!
Really? Kids spy on their
Really? Kids spy on their parents in their bedroom? When I was little, the absolute last thing I wanted to see was what went on in there.
Crap, now that I'm 'big' I still like to believe my parents are completely asexual, and I and my siblings were the products of test tubes.
Ew. Ick. Ew.
I think most kids do that at
I think most kids do that at some point.
SD15 spies on us and
SD15 spies on us and eavesdrops all the time...she's been doing it since DH and I got together 7 years ago. She used to tell us she just liked being sneaky and scaring us...whatever. I'm sure she has been reporting back to BM every time. The older she has gotten, the less she has done it, but she still does it. Sometimes I am sure she regrets it because she either hears or sees things she would rather not...lol. Sometimes she eavesdrops on us when we are discussing her and her recent behavior and our frustrations about it, and we know it, but figure she is the one choosing to invade our private conversation and she is old enough to know better, so whatever she hears is her own fault...we do not have those types of conversations out in the open where we know she can hear. It's a very creepy thing to have happen, I know I was very creeped out by it at first, but, and I hate to say this, if it continues you get used to it or the kid(s) grow out of it. There should definitely be consequences for these actions so that they learn that it is not ok to do such things, but that never makes it any less creepy or strange.
My DH always tells me to
My DH always tells me to lower our voices, the kids hear everything. So now we shut the door whenever the conversation is about BM. Just be very aware of where the kids are when you have any private conversation. All kids are sneaky. Nature of the beast. I agree that I don't think it is a "Step" thing.
When I was about 9 or 10 I
When I was about 9 or 10 I was spying on my parents by sitting on the stairs, I started to fall asleep and fell down the stairs. Scared the crap out of all of us. Pretty sure I never spied again. I think it is a pretty normal kid thing.
got 6 kids and there were
got 6 kids and there were three of us in my family growing up. Spying is a normal part of growing up at that age. Unless this kid has been prematurly exposed to sex in a negative manner him spying probably has very little to do with any type of interesting in viewing you in that manner.
In fact - when I was little and was attempting to spy on my parents - ended up viewing what at the time I considered to be the "worst, nasty thing ever" which was only my dad really kissing my mom - I never spied again. lol still makes me go ewwwwww.
I did it. Not so much to spy
I did it. Not so much to spy on mom and dad but because it was fun to sneak in to their room, hide under their bed or in their closet then try to low crawl out of without getting caught after they went to sleep.
Dad nearly always caught me. It is kind of difficult to out sneak a Force Recon Marine. I was in the 8-12 range during that time. It is kind of like sneaking out of your bedroom to reconoiter what is under the Christmas tree in the middle of the night between the 24th and 25th.
My dad would get devious about catching me/us sneaking out to scope out Santa's efforts in the middle of the night. The last time he propped a broom against our bedroom door (little bro and I shared a room) and I got whacked in the eye when I opened the door. He also put paper grocery bags full of empty aluminim cans down the hallways between our room and the Christmas tree.
Needless to say he busted us.
This may or may not be a big deal. He may have just been playing. After all, he is an 11yo boy.
Best regards.
It's normal for kids to spy
It's normal for kids to spy on their parents in the bedroom??? I don't recall, EVER, a moment where I wished to see what was happening in there...well, aside from when I knew they were wrapping Christmas gifts or something. After dark...NEVER.
Sneaking out to see what's under the Christmas tree, absolutely. Action in mom & dad's bedroom is NOTHING like the pleasant surprise of Christmas.
I agree! I don't ever
I agree! I don't ever remember spying on my parents... in their bedroom or not.. I could have cared less what they were doing or talking about! When I was little my mom caught me snooping around in her bedroom for Christmas presents once and told me that was fine, but what I saw I would not get and by golly...I beleived her.. and never snooped again!
It is fairly normal, both my
It is fairly normal, both my bio sons and older SK is always trying to listen. The layout of our house is horrible with the bedrooms all on one side of the house. The older SS is a little off though.... DH went through this thing for about 6 mo. where ....um...I don't think viagra would have worked. I finally got to the bottom of it when DH told me that everytime we had relations, older SS14 would pull him aside and graphically repeat what he heard (now THAT'S creepy). We have learned to be more creative with where and when now....ewwwwwww.
My SS20 ironically always
My SS20 ironically always leaves her bedroom door open when she is home and I swear it's for the purpose of listening to myself and DH. One time she eavesdropped so bad (we were having a disagreement, about her in fact) that she sent me 35 text messsages from upstairs! Telling me how to treat her dad. I have never forgotten that and will never talk openly about anything important when she is around.
I think kids should be called on the carpet for eavesdropping, no matter what their age is. It's wrong and very disrespectful.
I have a friend who at the end of every work day, shares a glass of wine or coffee or something with her hubby and they discuss their days. They go to a private area of the house and the kids have grown up knowing that period of the day is their parents time and they are not allowed to interrupt or hang around. Has worked wonderfully over the years.
Skids, biokids, friends,
Skids, biokids, friends, neighbors, siblings, co-workers or whomever it is that likes to spy or eavesdrop, it's always fun to set that person up for a nice little fakeout. For instance, when you think the kids are listening start discussing that wonderful Disney trip you're planning to surprise them with if they behave (mention the eavsdropping for a little extra emphasis!) A nosy co-worker? Rave on about how great it is that person's getting a nice promotion and/or raise! Or if you want to be really naughty, discuss how they're about to get their butt canned for eavsdropping, lol! Just be sure whoever you're having the discussion with is in on the gag! The best part is when Mr. or Ms. 'Ears' mentions what they heard - it's so hard to keep a straight face while asking where on earth they got that info??!! Yes, I'm devious when it comes to paybacks, but then again people shouldn't be listening in on private conversations. }:)
