Apparently money does grow on trees
H had sd switched from regular school to an alternative school that will allow her to graduate this May instead of next year. She just informed us today that she needs $1000.00 for graduation and $2000.00 for prom. My financially savvy, well informed H says sure no problem. WTF It didn't cost me that much when my sons graduated. So I call the school and ask why so much. I find out that the cap and gown are only $38.00 everything else is junk. Like a school hoodie, backpack, sweatshirt etc etc. I tell H and he's all about her special day and crap so I take the checkbook, bankcard and credit card and tell both of them NO!!! I refuse to be put in debt so he can spoil her rotten ass anymore. I told him that apparently I can't trust him not to go behind my back and until I can he isn't getting the above mentioned items back. This time I have FIL and MIL on my side and they won't give them the money either. I guess I truly am wicked and evil. }:)
I call Bulls#*t, too!
$1000 for graduation. You're so right- it's all for crap and "fluff" items that they don't need. Things that vendors come in and try to hock to the school. They are not REQUIREMENTS. Period.
Is SD graduating top of her class? #1? Did she work so hard that she is valedictorian this year? If so, then MAYBE, I could see rewarding all her hard work and accomplishments with buying her SOME special extras- but certainly NOT $1000 bucks worth. What a joke.
I just went through this w/my BS AND SD last year. BS went to public school. There was a "Graduation Fee" of $75 which covered most of the basics, and parents could buy the "extras". I got him about $50 in extras.
SD went to a Private school. Same thing, but higher Graduation Fee of about $125 fee. And DH got her about $75 in extras.
But still NO WHERE close to $1000- even totaled!!!
As for prom...I'd kick him in the ass if he gave SD 2000 for a frickin PROM!!! Get REAL! I totaled everything for my son's Senior prom from tux to tickets to flowers to his share of the limo...a little over $500.
SDs total for the dress, tickets, limo, etc...a little over $600.
Again, total for the 2 kids was $1100. Where she gets off DEMANDING 2000 is beyond me. And we live in an area where it's more "pricey" for everything around here.
I'd stick to being EVIL, if I were you, Ferretmom. These two have lost their minds!
"Of course things worked out nicely for Carol Brady...she had a live-in maid and Mike's first wife was DEAD!"
uh...i got married for under $2000
had a gorgeous dress too...
im just sayin'....

No extras allowed, the
No extras allowed, the announcements come in a package of 150, we certainly don't need that many. They run just over 60 bucks. I suggested doing what I did with my sons. I had special announcements printed, the amount we needed and it only cost me $20.00 and were much nicer than the ones the school offered. If that isn't good enough then they can just send e-mails. She's at the bottom of her class, gpa is 2.4, so no academic scholarships there. As for prom we had already bought her dress and accessories months ago at a great little shop that has designer clothes at was below retail. They buy over stock and returns from places like Belk and Profitts so it's nice clothes. Everything from the inside out only cost me $150.00 but now she wants something else. She saw a dress on line that was over $1000.00 and didn't have enough material to make a blouse. I guess she needs a costume for her pole dancing career. }:) Add that to the limo and catered party at the motel room she thinks we should rent for her and it comes up to over $2000.00. Like I said NO WAY!!!!
