I saw this video and could
I saw this video and could not stop laughing. So much of it is true. Poor kids in their 20's they have no clue what is really in store for them.
The one thing in this video
The one thing in this video that I did agree with was the 8am start time.
I really do think that different people are productive at different times. That if you let people do their work when it best suits them you’ll get much more than you expected.
Obviously that doesn’t work in all job situations but if you are able to conform work hours around the individual I think you should.
I also think that you should be paid for the job you do, not the time you put into it.
As an accountant I was on a salary. I could easily do my entire job in 4 hours a day, however the company was paying for 8 hours. So I did my work, then I surfed the net, I email chatted with friends, I planned vacations and meals and made to do lists. Yes, I asked repeatedly for more work but there was none and they wanted me there because it wouldn’t look good to the others on staff if I only worked 4 hours a day. I started working one day a week at home.
Our small construction company once built a set of cement stairs for a client. We’d agreed to a price of $10K. DH got them finished in 2 days. The owner refused to pay us. His reasoning was that he wasn’t paying DH $5K a day, that was preposterous!
DH said no, you are paying $10K for a set of stairs as agreed upon or I’m spending the next 6 weeks tearing them out and blocking your entrance.
Not funny. I'm a millennial
Not funny.
I'm a millennial and this constant depiction of my generation as a bunch of air headed technology addicts is getting old even in jest.
Happens with all generations.
Happens with all generations. With Baby Boomers, the thought was that we were going to all ruin our eyes sitting too close to the television (I still remember when they were ran with tubes!). And, we were certainly considered worthless by some for even watching TV. Now, pretty much all of the baby boomers are seniors themselves.
I think what millennials need to realize is how foreign carrying around a phone (or whatever you want to call it) all day really is to some of us oldies. To us, it does look like an electronic equivalent of a baby bottle that kids need to cuddle with all day. Personally, I can't stand the intrusion. Here you are at the dinner table, and then beep-beep-beep. BUT, it is what it is. New technology is new technology. Took me a while to get used to it, and etiquette is getting better around it.
I guess us oldies will have to get used to it the same way our parents and grandparents had to get used to television. Now, we all take television for granted, buy the biggest one we can afford, and give it a place of prominence in our home. Most homes have 3-4 of them. Not as many remember the days when television was called the boob tube. We got it back then, and millennials are getting it now.
