Soooo Today is the Big Day That SD Starts Remedial Grade School--errr I mean
community college. Not a hint of it though in FB posts! *crickets* This stb 19 year old DESPISES school. She was NEVER challenged or made to do anything she didn't want to do or perceived as too difficult. We shall see how long this Girhippo stunt lasts.

My friends brother was
My friends brother was valedictorian of his class and he lives in his moms basement after dropping out of college. I believe high school performance means nothing. It's only about memorizing and regurgitating facts back now. You don't actually learn anything anymore.

"In high school" is not a death knell for independent thought or intellectual curiosity. Shout-out to all the high school teachers who wade through teen angst & endeavor to cram some critical thinking skills into teens.

I concur. I was taking AP courses in high school and doing many of the same things as you. Of course I had PARENTS who would skin me alive if I EVER brought home a note from school saying I was being disruptive, not doing homework/classwork, skipping school, not working to ability, etc. etc.
They mostly ignored my grades and scores in school but made NO mistake about letting me know that "school was my JOB" and I'd better be successful at it, just the way THEY as adults had THEIR jobs to do.

Now they are teaching to the standardized tests and allowing kids to retake tests till they pass. Those that memorize are more successful and kids aren't learning.

Do you know why those standardized tests exist and why schools and teachers are pressured to get everyone to pass? Because too many parents insist the schools aren't teaching their kids anything (more like everything because so many parents are LAZY) and they want proof.
If parents really believe standardized tests are ruining education, they can opt out of them. But they don't. Because then what would they whine about?

Off topic I know but community college is a great option for some individuals. I understand that in this case it's a stunt to maintain CS but still.

I went to community college and I have a great career. Are you biased against community college? Not everyone has the funds to attend a university school or Ivy league. Community college isn't for dumb people, it's to give those who don't have the money the same opportunity rich people have. I find your if everyone has a degree then no one has a degree a bit tasteless. Are you offended she might get a degree and somehow under value yours? This is a good thing for her.

Typically, community colleges are springboards to technical careers that don't require a four year degree or for those who wish to get the first two years - the prerequisite courses - out of the way at a much cheaper cost and then transfer to a four year college or university.
I think you may have a bias toward those who attend a four year college or university, given your "rich people" remark. Many kids go to four year schools who come from families that are not "rich."

We live in Podunk NY so the community college, is well, at the very least dumbed down educationally. I did go to community college myself but at much more mature age AND I was paying for the courses myself. Makes a WORLD of difference.
SD was never taught "stick-to-it-iveness" so she is hard pressed to finish a sentence, much less a degree.
This is just a ploy by the Girhippo because the CO states that for CS to continue on ad nauseum at the same rate, skid must be enrolled in college without gap year. So for 12+ years, school attendance and school work was "optional." Wonder how THIS will work.

She wants to be a probation officer because she likes the show "Orange is the New Black." TBH I think that SD will most likely end up on the other side of the bars given her nature and that she was raised as a feral.
So supposedly she is going for Criminal Justice. This is the kid that had an assistant taking school notes for her and reading her quiz questions all throughout grade and high school, yet she has NO problem expressing herself on social media. Never did a lick of homework or classwork either.
We are watching closely and have made contact with the registrar. If she drops out by November, we will be at the attorney's office like white on rice drawing up new caveats to the CO, i.e. grade and attendance requirements. Most of her relatives that did pretty well in high school have just gotten a full time job. Then again, their moms weren't on the CS gravy train.

haha, I know we are both in the same state, and because I used to administer civil service tests, I know that Probation Officer is a civil service job, which means you have to have a 4 year degree and you have to take a civil service test and score in the top 3. The turnover for probation officers is extremely LOW (at least in my county) so there are rarely any openings... so good luck with all THAT! lol
