Update to MIL's visit...

I wrote yesterday with full on anger and was pissed off all day about Mother-In-Law's blatant favoritism toward skids and making my bios feel badly. DH text me during the day and said he noticed her behavior and it bothered him. He apologized for it. I told him I would not plan things for my sons with her again. He said he understood.

Yesterday, I started getting photo messages of chairs from MIL. I was a bit confused. She called me and said 'Your kitchen chairs are awful and I'm throwing them out. Please choose the ones you like and I will get them.' I sat on the phone silent for a moment with my head exploding. That kitchen table was the first thing I bought myself after the divorce from exH and the whole table has sentimental value to me. They are wooden chairs and could be tightened but they are MINE. 'Hungryeyes, Did you hear me? Which ones did you like?'

'I think my chairs are fine and I'd like to keep them and perhaps tighten them.'

'No, they are awful. I'll just buy you whatever you want. If you don't like these, I'll find new ones. By the way, WHERE are you?!?'.

'I'm at work, I have to go.' I said. She said 'You're still at work, this late?!' (It's 4:15pm)

I repeat 'I'm hanging up now, I'm at work' and I hung up.

Now I know this in her mind was a nice thing she was doing. But who DOES that!?! DH text me a few hours later saying he heard about the chairs and he was really sorry.

I had to force myself to go home and she's there with all the kids and DH had fixed a beautiful dinner. And to my surprise, it was pleasant. She was very kind and sweet the my boys and the night went on without any further issues and I was thankful. She seems to have done a 180 so perhaps she's realizes she can't buy my love like she does skids and she needs to treat my kids with respect. Even skids were much better behaved and she put her foot down with their demands many times last night. I don't know if DH talked to her. She was over late watching basketball and I didn't talk to him but the second part of the day was perfectly nice.

Thanks for helping me keep my cool Steptalk! We'll see how the next 2 nights go. (Dinners, events, etc) that her and my husband have planned. A whole weekend of mother-in-law... yayyy...

That's exactly my plan. She's really clueless. She can be mean and it's like she doesn't realize it. I baked a cake last week and my husband posted on facebook that it was the best he'd ever tasted and her comment was 'You'd say that for hungryeyes even if it's terrible'. And my aunt called me and was like 'What is her problem?!'

She really doesn't get it. Good catch.

Kudos to you for your restraint!! If I were you & DH did not put his mother in her place soon I'd rip those balls off since he obviously doesn't use them.
