Emancipation Paperwork

So, DH asked me if I could print off the paperwork needed to submit to the court to stop CS as both of his kids are now emancipation age in this state.

There are two different forms, depending on the situation, one where both parties agree, and one where one party disagrees. The agree part would just be submitting the forms, and having the judge sign off and then notifying DH's employer to stop withholding. The other form would require a court date/hearing.

DH bumbled around for a while on what to do, because he REALLY doesn't want to discuss this with BM (although she knows this is coming, I mean, why wouldn't she??). I finally told him he just had to call her and ask if she was in agreement.

He did. She is. (I'll admit, I have been holding my breath to see if she would try to file paperwork now asking for extension just in case the SK's wanted to attend college, or file for college tuition, or something stupid like that. But apparently not? Or maybe this is just the eye of the hurricane?)

Now the big hurdle is that the paperwork has to be signed by both parties and notarized before it can be submitted... I'm just sitting back chuckling, because BM can't be relied upon to be anywhere on time, on the correct day, etc. so there's no way DH would just "give" her the paperwork and HOPE beyond all hopes that she'd git 'er done in a timely manner. DH verbalized this too, and was getting frustrated.

I suggested maybe it was in his best interests to swing by and pick her up to take her to a notary so that it would be done, and be done ON TIME. }:) And maybe buy her a big box of her favorite wine afterwards...

I downed a bunch of that out of a flask at a football game when I was in college. You know, sitting in those huge stands, it's a LONG WAY DOWN when you have to hurl.

Mairin - I've seen her in the grocery store a couple of times over the years... and there's always at least THREE BOXES of Franzia Blush in her cart.

So, yeah.... BOX OF WINE. But on the bright side, drinking it straight from the little built-in spout would (hopefully) cut down on the chance of spillage in DH's new truck.

Don't you know that it changed in July of 2012? They moved it back from 21 to 19. However, I think if the CO was written after a certain date (??2004 or something) it can't be changed.

You better be checkin' girl!!

One bit of advice I have to offer, hire a process server. We just did this for skid#2.

Just to be fair, I buy lots of BOXES of wine, however, I use them to make very large batches, of ass kicking, sangria.

Do you have a friend that it's a notary that can go with you to get it? Feels like eliminating as many steps as possible is in order.

One... however she needs it for her work every day, and technically notaries are not supposed to notarize anything for friends. So I'd never ask her.

Honestly? It's not my problem per se -- *I* don't have to go, it's not my paperwork! I just like giving DH a hard time because HE DOES have to go.

I'd say just meet at the county clerk's office where he has to take the paperwork anyways... they're all notaries, can get it done and they can all be on their way.

Chef thought the new attorney (who I have a baaad feeling doesn't like Chef) could notarize his signature without him being there in person!!!!

I think I argued with him about that for almost a half hour (in the morning of course when he was sober)
