teens that stay up all night?

SteelRose's picture

Do any of you have teens that stay up all night and go to bed just as your alarm goes off at 5am? That has been the on and off again pattern of these two boys here this summer. Last 3 summers but previous houses we've lived in were a lot bigger and more sound proof and the kids further away from the master bedroom. Last night I heard doors all night and kept smelling things cooking and once burning (popcorn). *sigh*

Not anymore. SS20 used to do that type of shit and it would burn me like no tomorrow.
Thank God he is gone.

Yes...when adult YSS and his girlfriend were living in our home after getting evicted from their apartment. Neither one worked (they claimed that they were looking for jobs but only via the internet) and they both slept ALL day and were awake all night. Both of them were slobs and pigs and were way too noisy and nasty. I work Mon-Fri and DH was just recently retired, so it didn't seem to impact him as much. They were supposed to stay no longer than 2 months but it ended up to be 8 months and even then they only left because I gave DH an ultimatum.
That was 4 years ago and now the MSS lives with us. He is a nasty bum too and stays up watching cartoons all night while smoking like a chimney. There's a little patio room that he is allowed to smoke in but the damn smell still goes through the entire house!

My kids used to do that. Every year, about two weeks before school started, I would make them start going to bed at a normal hour. Just so they could get back into the swing of things.

Yes, SS16 games all night, then sleeps until 1pm. Get up showers, eats, goes surfing all day with his buds at the beach and starts it all over again. My co workers say their boys are the same way.

I am a very light sleeper but his room is on the other side of the house, even when he has friends over they have yet to wake me up.
So I do not complain Smile

School started Monday and he is back at his moms. She doesn't have a bed time for them so he does what ever he wants. He does do a pretty good job of policing himself during school time, his grades are good and doesn't get into trouble.

My SD13 stays up all night too when she has a friend spend the night.

Me, I go to bed between 11-12pm. Get up at 6.

I can't even imagine. Even as teens I think I wouldn't allow them to be up and about the house all night. That would drive me beyond insane.

I think quiet and in your room by 11 and in bed by 1 is the latest I could ever allow for anyone under 18.

I must be the evil odd B!tch out... I have both boys (SS17 & BS10) in bed (room) by 10ish EVERY night. Last school year was both boys in rooms between 8:30-9. This year, we might let them stay up until 9 & lights out by 9:30 for the 10yr old. I have disengaged from the big one, but they are usually both asleep by 11. I NEED time for ME & DH at night!!!!

About 2 summers ago, we were visiting friends out of state (I was car-less & it was bad) & the first night, I banished both boys to bed around 10-10:30 and was completely chastised by my friends that I was sending the big one to bed too early for the summer. The next night, I closed my eyes to SS(then 15) being up late helping to grind (using a wire brush on a grinder) the paint off the house. Worst mistake of my life. SS ended up at 11pm, coming to me with the latex glove and his wrist pulverized by the grinder he had laid down without waiting for it to finish spinning. We left within a couple days and it was quite a while before I saw my friend.

Needless to say, my friend doesn't question my parenting to me anymore. LOL

DS16 does this Sad SD13 and her friends do this...difference is DS16 doesn't disturb everyone else sleeping and SD13 and her friends are yelling banging on the door until 3 in the morning usually...DH says "oh that's just how girls are" WTF dude!

DS17 will stay up till 2 0r 3 in the morning and sleep till noon IF he doesn't have work or school in the morning. It doesn't bother me at all. It's not like he keeps us up. He respects us "old fogeys" and our need for sleep! Smile
