SS16 was traumatized by Mac and cheese
Recounting different parts of argument with SO. When SS lived with BM full time, BM was absent and neglectful and SS' sisters would just make him boxed mac and cheese all the time. This is SO's explanation for why SS wouldn't eat the pasta with cheese sauce I made, which was not boxed but made from scratch. SO says the reason for SS not eating the rest of my cooking is because SS doesn't like me. Oh, boo hoo.
First, I remember eating boxed Mac and cheese all the time, courtesy of my very attentive stay at home mom. I was raised on Cheetos and Pepsi. Mom cooked some real food too.
And somehow I don't have all these traumatic memories related to junk food. SS also won't eat rice because he had to eat it all the time when he lived with BM. These are all the excuses SO makes for SS.
I get that being raised on pre-chewed food can make a kid not used to real food. But I'm so tired of SO making up excuse after excuse. SS also has a fake allergy to peanuts. If it was real, where is his epipen? Why hasn't he had a reaction, peanut dust is everywhere.
Oh, and SO can't eat sour cream, makes his stomach explode. SO won't eat mayonnaise, miracle whip, yogurt, squash, zucchini, canned mushrooms, eggplant, cream of mushroom soup, cottage cheese, I am sure I left something out. SO will drink milk, milk shakes, and eat ice cream. He will drink beer
SO goes on and on about suffering through his last marriages with wives who never cooked. Now I know why they didn't!
Both SO and SS can go F themselves. I'm cooking for myself. I'm not their employee, they can eat all the frozen taquitos they want.

Ohhh your SO has the "white
Ohhh your SO has the "white food" aversion! sounds like texture issues. Not that its any excuse, and doesn't get SS off the hook by projection. Sorry it's so frustrating . Reminds me of YSD living with us and not touching the "poisonous" real food I'd cook. Left her with a container of almond butter and bananas - that was it for her.
I agree, texture and also
I agree, texture and also some control issues. I've been blogging about food issues a lot lately because I've just realized that the problem isn't just SS, it's SO. I realize now I hate cooking for both of them, it stresses me out, and it's so freeing to say I'm done. Maybe they'll learn to open their minds a bit.
Ew, I won't eat canned
Ew, I won't eat canned mushrooms either.
But other than that they both sound like a huge pain in the ass at dinner time.
They are, and I'm not a big
They are, and I'm not a big shellfish fan, so I understand some aversions. But my SO is in his mid 40's.
You may be picky but you are
You may be picky but you are still considerate to your BF. That's important.
Suffering because his wives
Suffering because his wives didn't cook. Now that is funny! Why is it the wives job to cook? The frozen food section sounds like it has a date with him
Exactly. SO actually cooks.
Exactly. SO actually cooks. But it's mostly tacos.

Your SO is full of shit. When
Your SO is full of shit. When will he realize he's the adult and your SS is the kid, SS eats what is put in front of him or he starves.
When I was growing up, there were some tough times, we ate a lot of tuna-fish casserole, lima beans and hamhocks, spaghetti and rice & beans with hamburger. And a lot of salad, veggies from the garden and fruit from our garden. Meals that didn't require a lot of ingredients but could be spread out to a family of 7.
I ate it because if I didn't, I starved. Oh and my parents said so. If any of us said gross, yuck or I'm not eating that, we were sent to our rooms without dinner that evening. Hey look....we all survived!
Now that I'm an adult, I can pick and choose my meals. I won't go withing 50 yards of tuna-fish casserole or lima beans & hamhocks, I very rarely eat pasta or rice. I sparingly eat hamburger. And when your SS is an adult, he can do the same.
When did it become the norm to treat the person cooking the family meals like a short order cook? I would love to mail you that sign that says "There are two things on tonights menu - Take It or Leave It"
Love it, Shaman, may have to
Love it, Shaman, may have to embroider that one.
At 16 I'd just let SS just
At 16 I'd just let SS just totally fend for himself. Cook for yourself (and SO if you want to) but just ignore butt head SS. He's not 5 even if he acts like it.
Just let SS's food be 100% irrelevant to you.
There are foods I used to
There are foods I used to "not like" before I met DH that I have since found out I DO like them. And vice versa. My DH thought he hated seafood. Turns out, he just hates fish sticks. LOL
I read someplace that you have to try something numerous times (6??) before you can truly tell if you like it or not.
I remember my mother making a lot of boxed meals. I also remember my aversion to a lot of stuff that my BFF's parents would make for supper that I got invited to a lot. One night, they said they were having fried chicken. Well, I LOVED fried chicken. Of course I would stay for that meal!
I got a drumstick. It still had the chicken foot on it. Grossed me completely out. I guess they were too "down country" for me. But it didn't scar me or anything. I still love chicken! FWIW, I don't like fish that still have the heads on either. I don't want to eat meat that still looks a lot like the animal it came from.
