Co-workers teen daughter just had a baby....

PeanutandSons's picture

And they named the boy, Messiah Serene :/ yikes

(Only assuming both words are spelled correctly)

Which got me think how I strongly dislike both my skids names. What about you?

SS has a really odd name. I guess in some cultures it would be concidered an uncommon name, but here in america its just down right weird. Its only known as the name for a food here, not as a name.

Sd has a uncommon normal name....but with an atrocious spelling. So ridiculous.

I hate that people think I named them. I've actually had people comment to be that they were surprised by bs4 and the babies name because they were expecting something crazy and creative to match the skids. So embarrassing.

HOLY HELL! Like a former coworker of mine named his boy Malachai.

I strongly dislike Stepdevil14's name. BM named her based on her studies of numerology". Obviously, I can't say what it is, but let's just say you'd think this girl was a different race than what she is if all you had to go on was a name.

It's horrible. I think a few of you girls that I have on FB can contest to it.

My DD15's name is very common nowadays, but when I named her, it wasn't so common. My DD's name is the same as a girl by the last name of Swift.

Man, now I really wanna know.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours? Wink

Told ya...it's horrible! Who DOES that to a kid? And when I asked DH what the fuck was he thinking allowing BM to name her without any say so, he just said "she controlled me, she controlled the marriage and she told me that since she carried the kid for 9 months she was going to name the kid". He went along with that, despite his feelings and all of his family being against the name.

I asked him what he would've named her. He said something nice and NORMAL like Melissa or Jessica or Ashley.

i wanted to name this baby malachai, but fdh said no. i'm hanging my head a little in embarrassment that no one likes that name! but i still picked his name out. fdh never suggests anything, he just yays or nays my suggestions.

sd's name isn't bad. i don't like it, but it's not unheard of, and it's not really weird, i just don't like it.

I like Malachai, it's an old Hebrew name.

In answer to the OP - Messiah? OMG - seriously? Does the mother think the child is Jesus? Is she trying to claim a virgin birth?

You have to wonder...

There is a girl in my youngest dd's jazz class - her name is Solitaire...

Back where I used to live there was also a child called Kerosene - pronounced
Ker-os-ne by her mama.

I also have a coworker whose teen daughter named her baby something very different. The funny part is it's a Latin word that the teen mom isn't even pronouncing correctly, LOL!

I like the skids' names. In fact SS30's first name is what I had chosen if DD had been a boy. SD27's name is pretty much the only thing I like about her.

Six years in and I am still embarrassed every single time I have to say/spell their names.

My skids have good names. But the oldest two girls have first names that start with the same letter as BM's name. It seems to be a little narcisstic. But then again, I wouldn't think that if BM wasn't a raging narcissist. Their middle nams bug me though because I just don't like the kind of middle name that denotes some sort of feeling you have about the baby, like "hope"...along those lines. But that's just a personal bias.

I like my skids names. Some of the their friends' names, though, are very hard to pronounce. And then some of their names are just plain wacky.

DH's kid has a very unique name that is pretty. It isn't gender specific, which is nice. We've only run into one person that has her name.

Her mother named her after an actress on a soap opera. However it's also the name of an actor on a TV show I like to watch.

It's not so bad and if you're trying to get her attention and yell out her name in a crowded place, at least 50 heads won't turn in our direction. Biggrin

My step kids both have the number one most popular names for the years they were born. I always tell DH he and his ex get zero points for originality. The names aren't hideous though, just boring. But as someone with an extremely common name who knew a billion girls with my same name growing up, I wanted my kids to have more unique names. Nothing weird for sure, just not common. I even checked the Social Security website when my kids were born to see how their names ranked and they were both way down on the list.

Cool coincidence that I like with all the kids names though...I am a J, DH is an H. His kids are also a J and an H and the kids we have together are J and H. It was only really on purpose with my youngest but I like how it worked out.

Messiah is pretty bad. I had a co-worker a few years back that named her daughter Jezebel. And yes, she knew what it meant!

SS14 has a very plain, traditional name. It's not bad, just very common. Think John Michael (though that's not it). SS8, on the other hand, has one of those new, modern, trendy names that's so horribly misspelled it's hard to pronounce. Think something like Sabbassschinn Jaeggear. Really, really weird. I have no idea how DH and BM went from one extreme to the other.

I know a woman who named her first two John and Mary (really) but the next two got really odd ethnic names that no one can spell or pronounce.
