VENT: Men who Are NEVER Wrong!
Take Chef (please).. he is a frequent flyer at one of the big box stores sometimes visiting two and three times a day.
He has an AmEx card specifically for said Big Box store and he does self checkout quite frequently. I have been with him on some of these purchases and I can tell you that he is always in a hurry. He marches 10 steps ahead of me and by the time he gets to the checkout he is ramming his card into the scanner before the transaction even starts.
He does this all.the.time-- in some cases the cashier when he does go through the regular line, tells him to take the card out because he put it in too early, which infuriates him.
So lately he informs me that when he goes through the self-checkout it does not ask him for a PO name/number. Hmmmm. There have been many times where I get receipts back with no purchase order name or number on it simply because he has been flying through the checkout process and then too much of a hurry to even write down what it is for. Which makes my record keeping job and taxes a nightmare.
He goes to the Big Box store manager and they immediately blame the AmEx card... probably because they are afraid of him... he has an extremely short fuse. So Chef calls me to tell me that I need to call the 800 number on the AmEx card.
Well I made the grievous error of texting him back and saying in very nice polite words you could have been in a hurry and it didn't get a chance to process through.
He then calls me back and starts being extremely defensive and condescending because he's like Mary Poppins-- practically perfect in every way.
Later today I will be going to this big box store for a purchase of my own and we shall see what happens as I will go through the self checkout. I have an extreme feeling this is user error. But again Chef takes no criticism well.
Did I say I enjoy my two days away from him every week spending time with AwesomeDIL and DGD?

I have a family member with narcissistic tendencies who is very similar. *not saying yours is like this bc I don't know him like that
They literally cannot accept that they're wrong, that they make mistakes, and they're isn't much you can do because when you present facts they are very skilled at turning things around where everyone else is to blame.
Add to that the layer of "male ego" that has difficulty accepting being infallible
I rush thru, too
I rush thru stores, too. Its a lingering effect from when I worked and had no time plus the longer I stay in a store, the more I spend. My DH is like you, "Slow down!". Plus, i"m never wrong, either. Lol.
Yah I'm currently dealing
Yah I'm currently dealing with the laundry ghost because my husband can't admit that just maybe he forgot, one time, to put the laundry in the dryer. Then my mother comes over, he tells her the story and she takes his side because she's a big believer in the supernatural (I am to an extent but I'm pretty sure this was a case of brain farts, not a ghost). Smdh.
PS If anyone on here has a husband who can admit when they are wrong... can I just ask.... WHAT is that like?!?!?

Or someone who could consider the POSSIBILITY that he might be doing incorrectly without getting EXTREMELY DEFENSIVE, barking orders and talking to you like you are a toddler!

I can offer up my DH. But he'll say ANYTHING to avoid an argument with me. Then he's right back doing what he wants to do.
The store checkout. Oh my god he's the same. Goes too fast. Doesn't pay attention. Start over. The store workers are usually pretty nice about it--DH looks more like a little old man every day and they take pity on him. And give me the hairy eyeball for "letting" him struggle. Sometimes I do apologize for him, "he's just out of prison and is learning how much things have changed." Credit for that to my SIL when my brother was being a bozo.

My DH (who treated me to a $95.00 dinner tonight) often admits to being wrong. We try to be as honest as possible with one another which keeps conflict to a minimum. But hey, like my dear Rags, I'm blessed with the Unicorn of partners. The only downside to my happy marriage is the fear that DH will predecease me. Without him, I would not want to live and as negative as that sounds, it's the sad truth.

Chef needs the "Common Denominator" lecture.
Stop solving this problem for him. Make him deal with calling Amex, make him deal with the store management, make him get every character of information for each transaction that you need to do the book keeping and taxes.
You are the CEO/COO/CFO... he is nothing but the labor/clerk. Keep him in his place and make him do his damned paperwork and do it correctly. Inform him that if he fails to do his damned job that you will fire him and contract it out. At least that way you will get the right reports filed as you stipulate.
There is a reason why when my DW asks me for something, I deliver it as she asks. Fortunately, online banking, billpay, etc... is pretty easy on keeping records in order.
DW does MILs, MIL's sister, and BIL2's taxes. BIL2 is notorious for filing taxes 2-3yrs late, providing crap records to DW, etc... I finally convinced DW to "not care more about finishing their taxes than they care about filing them". Stalkers may recognize that I stole that from the wisdom of the STalker collective.
BIL2 is getting a little desperate so DW is doing their taxes this week. If tney owe, it will include penalties and interest. DW will not pay that. they give crap a year+ late,no matter how long DW takes they are on the hook for the late fees and interest. She charges them nothing. Her clients tend to pay a ton for the services of her firm. So.... the ILs who have her do their taxes do not get a break if they are late getting her their records.
No coubt, there will be many things that DW will refuse to include as deductions and expenses because BIL2 will not have provided them or will just say "the receipt is in there". A bunch are hand written with inadequate information.
Oh well. They snooze, they lose.
I joke with SS and my niece and nephews that I am never wrong and that I know everything. It drove them nuts when they were kids when I would tell them "I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken."
UPDATE
So it WASN'T Amex that was at fault. It was the big box store which seemed more logical to me as it is their point of sale software. Chef was wrong though to immediately take offense and then condescendingly ordering me to call (not chat) Amex.
