Adults Only
I read an article on FB the other day where people were complaining at a restaurant owner for making his venue "Adults Only." His reasoning was that his establishment was a place for couples or other adults to enjoy a meal without kids screaming, misbehaving, etc. I think it's a FAB idea!! I wish more places were like this. I took my son to Red Lobster for his 17th Bday and this little girl (maybe 6) next to us had a iPad turned up so loud with a game we could hardly talk. The couple next to them asked to be moved. Clearly the parents' fault, but furthers my point.
I've gotten to the point in my life where kids of all ages irk me. I don't want to be around kids anymore. This whole d@mn country revolves around kids, and what kids want, and fun times for kids.
I have a DS17 and I've recently told him not to have my house full of boys when I get home from work. I'm clearly jaded and turning into a miser. But my own son irks me too. 17 has been a bad age for sure. We struggle on the daily to meet in the middle.
So in looking for a resort to vacation this summer I made sure one of my search filters was "adults only." I'm not about to spend $1000's on a vaca to listen to kids screaming, whining, etc. I also drop the F bomb quite frequently and I don't want to have to be careful of the little children's ears. Stepping down from b!tchy soap box

I like my kid (BS13) because
I like my kid (BS13) because I am obviously biased. I am under no obligation to like yours. I have to spend time with my kid, I dont need to be around yours...
This to me is not so much about kids in general. This is about parents who don't control their feral brats of any age. This is about people who infringe on the enjoyment of others in public spaces such as restaurants, parks, etc. by having children who misbehave and then ignoring the same behaviour
I am all in favour of "adults only" places. Even with a young child of my own, there are times when I dont want to be around children! Quite a few of our seaside restaurants have a no under 10 year old policy - permanently or especially for the tourist season - and I dont blame them. We see some of the worst behaviour from parents who are "on holiday" and can not care about what their kids get up to.
I'm all for it, but it really
I'm all for it, but it really doesn't affect me because I would NEVER take a misbehaved child to a restaraunt. We simply didn't go out to eat when BS8 was a toddler. Not that he was bad, but sorry... I really don't see how it's "fun" for a toddler to sit and wait for a table, then sit and wait for their food, and then sit and wait for everyone to eat etc. It's just setting them up to act the fool and I honestly can't blame them.
a misbehaved child
a misbehaved child
That, my dear Daizy, is the key. Too many people don't' give a rat's arse and take their misbehaved children wherever they want because they don't care.
And heaven forbid that someone should comment on it - them's fightin' words!!
I'm all for it! Frankly, the
I'm all for it! Frankly, the kid-centric world of today annoys me. I was raised to be polite and respectful. There was no interrupting - adults OR siblings (or other kids) - you waited until people paused and were not speaking and THEN you spoke.
I have been in restaurants where kids are running around, annoying customers and getting in the way of the wait staff.
I was at a buffet where the mother saw her 10yo take a spoon out of a dish, lick it, and PUT IT BACK. And the beeyotch said NOTHING. I grabbed the dish, took it to the manager, and explained why I was giving it to him. The manager was appreciative, but POd. He immediately shut down the buffet to have EVERYTHING swapped out. Two other customers told him they were about to complain because they'd seen the kid do the same thing to SEVERAL other things on the buffet. IOW, the entire damn thing was possibly tainted because a POS mother did not parent her kid. Everyone who had the buffet was offered a refund AND a free meal for another time. The woman and her kid had to leave.
This one time - at the Candy Store
I worked a few years back at a Candy Store That Shall Remain Nameless in a huge tourist spot that is somewhere on the west coast...ahem, and would hand out bags and have tongs ready and MOST parents watched their kids, but the bulk bins were fair game for kids to reach in after wiping their snotty noses and licking their fingys...anyway, I reached a breaking point where I knew I was a little burned out, and yelled at a kid for reaching in with their hands and grabbing the gummies from the bins. All I said was "No", then when the child did not listen, I clapped at them (did not touch!) and said "hey, no means no, so NO". The mother was SO MAD. I apologised and discounted her cretins candy, but was like REALLY????
SO GOOD JOB!!!!
Gads, CLove, you actually
Gads, CLove, you actually told her wittle pwecious poopsie "NO"? What nerve!!! Good for you!!!
If kids can have Chuck E
If kids can have Chuck E Cheese (a place I have to be dragged to kicking and screaming), why shouldn't adults have adult-only restaurants? There are plenty of restaurants that allow children, and frankly, most children in restaurants don't bother me. It's the unparented brats who are the problem no matter what type of restaurant you're in. But if I'm in the mood for a quiet, romantic dinner, an adults only restaurant seems like a good choice.
Right? I honestly coulnd't
Right? I honestly coulnd't tell you the last time I was at a restaraunt and was annoyed by a brat. Maybe because we don't go out to eat that much?? Or maybe we were just lucky? But yeah, there are certain types of restaraunts that children just don't need/want to be at. Just like most adults I know, would have ChuckECheese 1,768,895 on the list of "places I'd like to eat."
Exactly!!!
Exactly!!!
Local restaurant has this
In our small town, one of the local restaurants has the no kids policy in the main dining area, there is a closed off section for people with children. There has been a uproar from local parents with feral children that are boycotting the restaurant due to the rules for their special little snowflakes. I have no filter when it comes to feral kids and their parents and I have said things to parents out in public many times. The first question out of my mouth is, "Is this your stepchild?" if the answer is no, bio brat, then the gloves are off, I tell them that they are sh!tty parents for letting the feral brats run wild and ruining every ones meal.
My neighbor has 3 bio feral brats, 7, 9 & 11 years old, during the summer, it's a nightmare with these feral brats screaming and yelling all hours of the day and night, coming on to my property and stealing fruit from our fruit trees and tearing things up on our property. The parents got a rude awakening last weekend, when we had a memorial for a friend that had passed away. We had over 500 Harleys parked on our property, the feral brats decided to crash the party and try to sit on some of the bikes. Big NO NO, you don't touch a bike, without the owners permission. I don't know what was said to the feral brats or the parents, but they haven't step foot on our property since and they are quite as a church mouse, no more screaming and yelling.
Hahahahaha, they are
Hahahahaha, they are boycotting the restaurant that won’t allow them to bring their children!? Perfect!
"Adults Only" couldn't agree
"Adults Only" couldn't agree with you more. Commuting to and from work I'm surrounded by ruthless, loud, inappropriate children running wild with no home training and I've had enough. If I can sit somewhere and enjoy some peace & quiet without the yelling and screaming that would be awesome.
I agree
I really don't enjoy being around kids anymore, especially little kids. Sometimes I think people look at me like I have 2 heads when I say that, but I just don't like them. Seems that people are raising entitled little brats these days.
Tiger7, I get the same
Tiger7, I get the same reaction but who cares. It is, what it is! I'm at a point where I want to enjoy some peace and quiet with civilized adults who can genuinely enjoy each others company without all the BS.
Harbinger of Change?
I am a retired restauranteur. My career started in the days of fine dining, when every section of the restaurant was a smoking section and children were seldom seen, and ended when Crap-on-the-wall casual dining was king and entitled adults expected to be able to chug margaritas while their kids roamed free.
I'm hoping the kid-centric peldulum is about to swing in the other direction as more Millennials speak with their wallets and seek restaurant experiences that are more Mad Men and less Romper Room. Entitlement is no longer fashionable, especially from a customer base that typically doesnt spend a lot, doesn't splurge on expensive high profit items, and is a time suck for waitstaff.
My mom said instead of
My mom said instead of smoking or nonsmoking...it should be kid or nonkid lol
ESMOD, for YEARS I have asked
ESMOD, for YEARS I have asked for the No Children section! I've yet to have anyone look at me in a weird way when I do.
And I do not think twice about asking to be reseated when crappy parents don't control their misbehaved brats. A few weeks ago, I had dinner with my sister. A group was seated next to us, the children were running around, screaming, throwing packets of sugar... I quietly asked the waiter if we could move. He nodded, picked up our drinks and said, "Right this way." As they were leaving, the so-called 'mother' stopped at our table and snottily said, "Well, I hope you have a nice f*cking evening." I replied, "It was a thousand times better after we were reseated. Now that you're FINALLY leavning, don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you!"
Haha yeah
Oh yeah! I wish I was there to see you in action! I would have stood and clapped!
I feel ya. I am so sick of
I feel ya. I am so sick of everyone thinking kids need to be the star of the show 24/7. It started with stupid participation trophies and has grown to a nasty monster that needs to get back in the closet. Kids are kids. Not equals and I am sick of people thinking they are equals and letting them run the show. Heaven forbid you want adult time. The Ipad thing. KILLS ME. come on...seriously. Wear ear buds! Grrrrrr.....I so feel your pain.
I hate kids. I would have
I hate kids. I would have probably hated my own if I had had them. But I really hate other peoples' kids.
I also hate this kid-centric country. It's as if reproducing is some miracle and we should all endure the result.
