SD wearing weather-inappropriate shoes and BM could care less. What's new?

BM's actions this week again magnify that she could care less about when her children are hurt, because it usually causes an inconvenience for her.

We picked up SD5 on Wednesday night after school and she was wearing these sparkly silver shoes that not kidding look like Dorothy's magic slippers from Wizard of Oz, just silver instead of red. They are really adorable. But Thursday morning it was raining and cold and I knew her feet would be cold. I searched high and low for another pair of shoes for SD5 but realized that all her "real" shoes are at BM's. We have flip flops and sandals galore, but no close-toed shoes. I grabbed her some socks to wear only to find out that the shoes are too tight and she can't wear socks with them. I figured I'd let DF know to try to contact BM that day and she could just run some shoes over to SD's school at her lunch break. She lives and works within a mile of the school. No problem, right?

DF called her and texted her about it. She never responded. Last night we picked her up again from school for the 2nd night. Still raining. She complained that her feet were cold. I told her that we'd try to get ahold of BM again and that she could probably drop off some shoes last night, so that we could get her shoes for the next day (today). Again we called and texted BM and no response.

This morning, still raining, and even colder. When SD realized she had to wear her "Wizard of Oz" shoes again with no socks, she actually started to cry. I told her that next time she gets ready for school at Mom's to make sure she has shoes on that she can wear if it's cold out or raining out or else packs some in her backpack. At least we might be able to teach SD some sense! I brought her to the bus stop and she got on, then I ran back home and saw that DF had stopped at home on his way out for a sales call. I told him that SD5 had been crying about the shoes and to try to call BM one more time. She finally answered, and she impatiently told him she wasn't going to do anything about it.

If I had known BM was never going to do anything, I would have gone to Walmart last night and bought her some shoes to wear! I always expect BM to be caring and step up to the plate of being a MOTHER and she never does...I don't know why I haven't learned that yet.

I might go on my lunch break and drop off some new shoes for her.

You already know your answer - I would just go and buy her new shoes and keep them at your house. This may have just been BM's was of getting out of buying her new shoes. And as for the above as my Dad says "Hope springs Eternal".

But she's going back to BM's tonight, so if I get her new shoes they will be going to BM's house. Unless I call day care and have her keep them there (she goes to day care after school)....hmmmmmmmmm!

I would just get a new pair for your home and let it go for today - they won't make her go outside in the rain. Just be prepared for the next time she comes over and let her wear them to the school - call the daycare and explain the situation and have them keep them there. It is such a pain that you even have to deal with this - parents should know better and think how they would feel with those kinds of shoes for 2 days.

That's kind of like how BM will let SD11 walk out the door in the winter (when it's F-ING 15 DEGREES) outside without a coat and not understand why DH is upset. We try to tell SD that she's at the age where SHE is responsible for herself and she says....but mommy doesn't remind me or I forgot, or I dont care.

AHH!!!!

I ended up buying her shoes and bringing them across town to her school. I immediately felt better. At least someone is taking care of her Smile

Fiance is calling day care to tell them to leave the shoes there.
