I know this is off topic but I was just wondering how many of you on here picked your own engagement ring?also has BM commented on your ring?

we looked together, I picked out 4 styles I loved and he chose from those along with him deciding what size stone to put in it.

she has seen it, I saw her look but refuses to acknowledge it. SD mentioned how much "bigger it is than mommy's was!"...I got a silent chuckle out of that comment.

lol well I hope you like it, FDH picked a few in the store and asked me which one I liked but they were all to big for my liking my ring has a very small diamond in it set in silver....

I did pick my ring. I haven't seen BM since I got it, but she did send me a FB message asking me to post our wedding pics so the skids could see them. I guess she didn't want me to think she was being nosey. Smile

I made our wedding album public for a day so they could see them. I'm certain there wasn't one decent comment amongst them, but I don't care. There are 8 or 9 close-up shots of our rings. We got a helluva deal on them, so I was able to get a much nicer one than I would've had we had to pay full price. I'm certain BM explained to the skids that my ring is the reason DH hasn't been able to buy them extra gifts, & I'm sure she let them know that had he not spent that money on me they would have unicorns & dragons to ride on. Like everything else, if it weren't for me, they would have those things.

As far as comments from BM? Nah.

Thanks for that! Awesome!!!

BF wants me to pick the ring. I'd rather him pick it out, but realistically, he probably won't get one I like. It'd be like me picking out the sump pump.

Der...

Absolutely! DH kept asking me what I liked & what I wanted. I told him it'd really mean more to me if he were to pick the ring he wanted me to have. I discussed it with my mom (an incredibly wise woman, I have to say...) & she set me straight. It's a ring you wear forever. It's like having a man pick an outfit for you to wear everywhere you go for the rest of your life. When she put it that way, I quickly changed my mind.

Ha, same here. DH would ask me what kind of ring I like and I explained it to him. He chose the ring on his own. It was nice, but the stone was quite small and difficult to see. I wore it for a week and thought "I have to wear this the rest of my life", so I gently asked him if we could go to the store and look around at what they had. He wasn't offended though. Just wasn't grasping my description very well. I LOVE my ring!

I sort of picked hers without much in the way of direction. I had my mind set on princess cut because I call her Princess.

I have to admit that I put a deposit on the ring even though her divorce wasn't final. 2.04 carat princess cut VS2 / E, with two .75 carat princess cut side diamonds, and 4 other channel cut princess diamonds. That was a 500 dollar deposit in the shitter. I planned on paying it off over the next few months and giving it to her when we went on our next cruise in November. Glad I didn't pay the whole 16k Smile

And by the way, as a man, there is NOTHING in the world cooler than shopping for and buying a big ass eye-popping diamond for your girl. Makes you feel like Superman.

I am confused the funny thing is FDH wanted me to have a ring that had three diamonds in it and after I saw the price I told him no my engagement ring has one diamond 0.03crt in it and I am more than happy however I do have rings from my late gran that I would of liked to be my engagement ring but I would never wear them out out of fear I'd loose them

Anyone here ever get there FDH's an engagement ring? I did he was shocked and very happy he loves the ring and always lets me put it on his finger in the morning,he cant sleep with rings on.

Mine asked me a bit about what I liked in advance I told him I held Rita Rudner's philosophy I don't want something around my neck that's worth more than my head.

I also hated diamonds that could get caught on anything, so he bought me a much bigger diamond than I would have chosen for myself set in a sloped setting so it couldn't get caught on anything. BM wouldn't dare say a word about it, my ring cost 5xs more than hers did, never mind my wedding band.

We looked at styles, gem cuts, metals online and picked out a few that we liked before shopping. We did go look together and found one setting that was absolutely gorgeous and fit well with the stone shape I liked; DH loved it too. He didn't want me to hear how much he was spending on it so he and the saleslady jokingly sent me away for awhile while they talked about some of his options for his price range... or at least that's what I was told they were doing. Really, he was putting a down payment on it and getting the paperwork filled out. Smile

BM's never said anything about the ring, per se, and I've never paid attention to see if she even looks at it, but she did send us both a "Congratulations!" when we updated our FB relationship statuses, which I thought was nice of her.

DH's 9 year old girl told me she thought it was very pretty, Smile

My XW and I picked the stone and setting together. She actually kept it and wears it as her engagement/wedding ring with her second husband. :?

I had my wedding ring from my first marriage melted down and made in to a different ring.

I picked out both engagment and wedding rings I have given to my wife. She loves them both and won't get rid of the original rings I gave her.

But, I was trained on jewelry by the queen. My mom is big time in to jewelry and dragged me to more jewelry stores and diamond grading classes than I can count.

Best regards.

There are no words in the English language that can adequately express my opinion on this, so I'll have to go with the old standby, "HOLY SHIT".

I don't know. I haver never laid eyes on the man. Mutual friends have relayed that she wears the rings we had as her engagment and wedding rings with her 2nd husband.

Future DH and I had it made using stones from my family, he is going through bankruptcy after his divorce to Craziness and I didn't want him to spend too much on a ring (maybe in a few years.) He bought me the setting and i truly love it. The center diamond is not huge but it was my mom's engagement ring stone and she and my dad have been married for 20+ years so I hope it gives us another 50+.

BM has not seen it up close but she asked her daughter to ask me how much it cost :jawdrop: She is a nut!!! Thanks for the interesting post Smile
