I just saw a movie that was positive about stepmoms!

Has anyone seen Bonneville? I just saw it last night with my DH, on the recommendation of my MIL, of all things! The movie came out last year, and stars Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates and Joan Allen. Here's a synopsis:

'When Arvilla Holden promises her husband that she'll cremate him and scatter his ashes, she doesn't expect her promise to be called so soon, or to lead to a high-stakes fight with her stepdaughter Francine, a Santa Barbara socialite determined to give him a proper burial. Convinced that she has no choice but to surrender the ashes to Francine, Arvilla sets off on a journey from Pocatello, Idaho to Santa Barbara. Her friends, life-of-the-party Margene and goody-two-shoes Carol, volunteer to go with her for moral support. Expecting to fly, they're surprised when Arvilla picks them up in her '66 Pontiac Bonneville convertible, and shocked when she cruises serenely past the airport and hijacks them on a reluctant road trip that becomes the ride of their lives."

My DH kept saying, "Oh, my god, that's HORRIBLE!" in the first 20 minutes of the movie, and I kept saying, yeah, well, that's what it's like to have an adult stepdaughter who thinks that you're essentially nothing but a whore who stole her daddy.

I really recommend this movie -- it really validates the true feelings of love and the relationship between Arvilla and her husband. Like I said, my MIL recommended it to me, which makes me feel like she must have had some sort of epiphany when she saw it. That makes me hopeful for the future -- I'm going to email her and thank her for recommending it.

Chalk one up for the stepmom crowd!
