OT but not OT- mental illness and how we treat it
In light of what happened in Santa Barbara recently, I've been thinking about this. The shooter was obviously mentally ill.
We really need to change how we treat mental illness. Parents need to have the power to put their kids in mental health hospitals. If a person is found to have a true mental illness, they need to be in a mental hospital. Not a prison. A schizophrenic just got life without parole. He should be in a mental health hospital. So should many other prisoners.
Many people here have BMs who have mental illnesses. Some of these women should be getting mental health help in a hospital. Maybe if they were institutionalized they wouldn't be in these situations having kids.
I also think we need to, as a society, have more sympathy for these people. Mental illness truly takes over the minds of some people and some don't have the ability to control it.
How we treat the mentally ill must change.

What about people who are
What about people who are mentally ill by choice? Like meth users or alcoholics?
As someone who has Aspergers,
As someone who has Aspergers, it seems like this guy had more than that going on.
I agree that they need to be in a secure facility while being treated. If they can't be treated, I think they should be institutionalized for life. Some people truly are beyond the ability of knowing right vs. wrong.
My 16 y/o son watched this
My 16 y/o son watched this lunatics rantings yesterday on Youtube. The first thing he said was "Mom he looks like he was just a real obnoxious douche, that's probably why nobody liked him."
We saw him talk about his BMW, where he said it was probably nicer than 90% of the cars the kids in his school were driving. He seemed more like a wannabe, rich boy, snob, than a sad, ignored, lonely boy.
It seemed that he was just a pissed off brat. I'm not sure how much that has to do with being mentally ill, I personally think it had more to do with parents that gave him everything, without him deserving it.
It made me very angry to hear about that and my heart goes out to the families who sent their kids off to college and had them sent back in body bags.
That is just unfuckingbelieveable.
