O/T New Orleans Trip

Other than the airline experience, New Orleans was great! Very historical; I especially enjoyed the antique gas sconces. And no I did not make the association of being gaslighted. Biggrin

If you go, bring WALKING SHOES and stay confined to the French Quarter. There is a lot of crime once you go past S. Rampart and Esplanade St. Also forget about renting a car. You'll just have to pay to park it in some fancy parking garage AND parking is at a premium everywhere, much like Manhattan.

The food, obviously, was delicious! Out of the two famous beignet places, we preferred Cafe Beignet to Cafe Du Monde. Both places were VERY busy!

I enjoyed walking around with an adult beverage to go during the day. The weather was beautiful and unseasonably warm. We stayed in the business district right near the superdome for the Saints.

We took three walking tours, one of which was in an original cemetary. It was fun reading all the french epitaphs and checking out the voodoo monuments.

It's definitely not a destination for the under 12 set for sure. But still I saw young couples wheeling their small children around (why I don't know--best to get a babysitter).

I bought several voodoo dolls as souvenirs, one of which I keep handy right here at work! Biggrin

Definitely! Every child I saw traipsing down Bourbon St. looked bored beyond belief and had a miserable look on his/her face.

I felt like saying: "People, take your kid to a circus or an amusement park, not the French Quarter!"

Oh and here is the walking tour agency which is great. You tip the tourguide at the end; there's no set fee. I game him/her $20

Make sure if you sign up, respond and confirm by email then CHECK IN with the guide just before the tour starts!

Yep I did one. Now Chef does NOT believe in ghosts. I myself experienced the
Ghost of Prince Hygiene past when I smelled his room long after he was gone, but I digress.

The tour guide was GREAT and did a LOT of historical facts, brought up the ghost story then what he thought REALLY happened.

My parents would take us on adult trips as well, historical stuff, museums, etc. but I think that was a different time when kids were expected to behave and learn things about history, etc.

Nowadays, in this child adoration society, the kids act like babies, have no discipline and anyone who objects to that is branded a "kid hater."

I'm glad you had fun in NOLA, it can get very ...interesting...once you get out of the French Quarter. The last couple of weekends me and DH have gone the past couple of weekends to walk around. I'm trying to keep my pregnant butt moving and the French Quarter is one of my happy places I can browse all day long without realizing it.
